President Vladimir Putin’s Address to the President and the People of France
115
Russian President Vladimir Putin, in connection with the terrorist attack in Nice, made a video message to the President and the people of France. It should be noted that this is an extremely rare practice for the President of the Russian Federation in relation to foreign states. He attributed this format to the appeal that President Hollande did not have enough time to answer numerous calls in connection with the tragedy. We bring appeal of Vladimir Putin fully:
Tonight we all learned about another heinous terrorist act in France. I understand that now the President of the Republic, like the entire French leadership, does not have time for telephone conversations, therefore I want to address him publicly.
Dear Francois, Russia knows what terror is and the threats it creates for all of us. Our people have repeatedly encountered similar tragedies and deeply worried about what happened, sympathizes with the French people and stands in solidarity with them.
The crime in Nice, as a result of which there are dead and injured, including among Russian citizens, was committed with particular cruelty and special cynicism.
Once again I would like to emphasize that only joint efforts can defeat terrorism.
Mr. President, I ask you to convey the words of the most sincere condolences and support to the families and friends of the victims, and to wish a speedy recovery to all the injured.
Recall that at the moment it is known about the death of a citizen of Russia in Nice. It is also known about the victims from the post-Soviet countries. In particular, at least two citizens of Ukraine were injured.
