Takeoff over the sea: MiG-29K will strengthen the combat power of the flagship of the Russian Navy

4th of July. / TASS /. In the Barents Sea, tests of the updated aviation flagship group naval fleet (Navy) of the Russian Federation "Admiral Kuznetsov".
It is expected that in the autumn of 2016, the cruiser carrier-based aviation will be involved in striking militants in Syria from the eastern Mediterranean. For the first time, the newest carrier-based MiG-29K fighters will be used, which until recently were not permanently stationed on an aircraft carrier.

"The plan for the participation of deck pilots of a mixed wing in attacking terrorist groups in the Syrian Arab Republic by the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces is aimed at giving crews the practice of performing sorties from the deck of an aircraft carrier to destroy ground targets"
Military diplomatic source TASS

Correct gain

According to Tass military reviewer Viktor Litovkin, the appearance of MiGs on a ship will complement the existing deck fighters Su-33.

First of all, this is due to the fact that the Su-33 is no longer being released and is not being fully upgraded. The expert believes that "without prospects for improving the performance of the fighter, it is difficult to count on it." At the same time, a certain number of these aircraft still remain in the Kuznetsov wing.

The MiG-29K carrier-based fighter has already entered the series and has repeatedly been successfully “tested” for its military colleagues from India. The planes are shipped to this country from 2009. In total, the 45 copies of the MiG-29K and MiG-29KUB (under two contracts - from 2004 of the 16 sides, in the amount of $ 730 million , and from 2010 g. on 29 boards, in the amount of $ 1,2 billion).

The MiG-29K was developed in various modes for the Indian aircraft carrier Vikramaditya (former Admiral Gorshkov), its anti-corrosion protection was improved, the airframe was strengthened, the landing gear was strengthened, the capacity of the fuel tanks was increased, the system of refueling was increased, and the number of types was increased in addition, a new airborne electronic equipment was installed that can be improved for new tasks "
Viktor Litovkin

According to the expert, the fact that the MiG-29K is much easier than the Su-33 is also of no small importance. It takes up less space in the hangar of an aircraft carrier, that is, more planes can be used in the naval grouping than before.

Build MiG-29KUB

First deck

The fourth-generation fighter, the MiG-29K, became the first combat aircraft in the USSR capable of taking off from the deck of a ship and boarding it in the usual way - with a run-up and run.

The fighter is designed to solve the tasks of air defense of naval connections, destruction of surface and ground targets at any time of the day.

It was developed in 1980's. The team of the Separate design bureau of the plant number 155 (Design Bureau named after AI Mikoyan, now the Russian Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation MiG JSC) under the leadership of Chief Designer Mikhail Waldenberg, later significantly upgraded.
In the USSR, MiG-29K was built in single copies at the Moscow Machine-Building Plant Znamya Truda (now the production complex number 2 of RSK MiG). In the Russian Federation, mass production was launched in 2000's at the Lukhovitsy Machine-Building Plant (production complex 1 number of JSC "RSK" MiG ") in the Moscow region.

The first flight of the MiG-29K took place 23 June 1988, the car was piloted by a test pilot of the OKB. Mikoyan Toktar Aubakirov. He 1 November 1989 g. Performed the first landing on the deck of heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser "Tbilisi" (now - "Admiral of the fleet of the Soviet Union Kuznetsov") and the first take-off from the ship's springboard.

In the second half of the 1980's. for the training of pilots, a project of a two-seater MiG-29KU with separate cabins of an instructor and a trained pilot was developed, however, at the beginning of 1990's, work was suspended.

In the 2000-ies, after the conclusion of a contract for the supply of carrier-based fighters of the Indian Navy, a deck-based combat training fighter MiG-29KUB was created with a common two-seat cockpit. His first flight took place on 20 on January 2007, the car was piloted by a crew of Mikhail Belyaev and Pavel Vlasov. Repeatedly experienced a plane in the Barents Sea and the head of the corporation "MiG" Sergei Korotkov.

Easier, stronger and more economical

Today, the MiG corporation is creating new aircraft of the unified MiG-29K / KUB family, MiG-29М / М2, as well as a promising fighter of the 4 ++ generation MiG-35. All of them are designed as a new platform, which has a good potential for increasing combat capabilities based on the use of technologies inherent in aircraft of the fifth generation.

Fighter MiG-29М2

Externally, the new fighters are similar to the usual MiG-29, but they are completely new aircraft with major changes in the design of the fuselage, on-board equipment and materials used in the production. About 15% of the entire fuselage surface are composites, which are five times lighter than steel and much stronger.

The use of composites has significantly reduced the weight of new machines. These savings went on increasing the combat load and fuel reserves. While the classic MiG-29 could carry 2,5 t suspensions, the ship’s already 4,5, and the MiG-35 more than 6 t. The internal tanks of the new MiGs hold almost one and a half times more fuel.

In addition, the aircraft received an in-flight refueling system, which, in conjunction with the new air-to-ground missiles, will make it possible to accomplish tasks previously only available to bombers.

The length of the aircraft - 17,3 m.
Height - 4,4 m.
Wingspan - 11,99 m (full) or 7,80 m (in the aircraft carrier parking lot).
Practical ceiling - 17 500 m.
Ferrying range - 2 ths. Km, with outboard fuel tanks - 3 ths. Km (2700 km with outboard tanks at the MiG-29CUB).
Maximum take-off weight - 24 500 kg.
Maximum speed at altitude - 2200 km / h.
Deck versions of the MiG-29 can be based on aircraft-carrying ships with a displacement of 28 KT, equipped with a take-off springboard and a landing arrestor and capable of receiving airplanes weighing more than 20 T. Also, the aircraft can be located on land aerodromes.
The wing mechanization was seriously changed: the aircraft was able to take off with a shortened run-up and land at a lower speed.
The appearance of the MiG-29K carrier-based fighter will significantly increase the combat potential of the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft-carrying cruiser, which will make future plans for the creation of the Russian aircraft carrier fleet logical.

Flying by wire
On the MiG-29K fully implemented the principle of "glass cabin", all digital devices. The display is displayed on color liquid crystal displays. The usual steering system has been replaced by an electronic system: in the west it is called fly-by-wire (TASS).
The MiG-29K is armed with a 30 mm caliber cannon (150 ammunition), on 8 suspension units can carry up to 4500 kg of payload. Thanks to modern electronics, it is able to use the whole range of high-precision missiles and aerial bombs, including the newest supersonic anti-ship cruise missiles X-31 and X-35, television-guided bombs.

The survival rate of the aircraft in combat has been significantly increased due to the introduction of elements of the stealth technology and increasing the capabilities of the onboard defense complex by installing missile launch detection systems and laser irradiation.
The on-board radio-electronic equipment of the serial version of the fighter includes the Zhuk-ME radar station (it provides tracking of air targets to 10, simultaneous firing of four of them with missiles), the Uzel additional navigation system, the Karat automatic control and recording complex.
The aircraft are installed on-board video registration system, autonomous power generation system for ground checks of equipment without starting the main engines.
The RD-33MK engines are an improved version of the RD-33, which were installed on the classic MiG-29. Thanks to the refinement of the motors, their power increased by 8%, the modern digital control system FADEC was introduced.
On the basis of the MiG-29K / KUB, airfield-based fighter jets were created and mass-produced: the single MiG-29М and the double MiG-29М2. In 2012, in celebration of the 100 anniversary of the Russian Air Force, the MiG-29М2 was demonstrated in a joint flight with the fifth-generation fighter PAK FA (T-50). Also, this serial version was successfully demonstrated in Kazakhstan, Serbia and Slovakia.
In the opinion of test pilots of the MiG-29K, from the very beginning, high maneuverability characteristics, safety, automation, simplicity and intuitiveness of control for the pilot were laid in the plane.

Fighter MiG-29KUB Indian Navy

Without competitors

According to military experts, in their flight-technical and operational characteristics, the new shipboard MiGs are at least not inferior to modern foreign fighters of the 4 + and 4 ++ generation. These aircraft are mass-produced and are being used by the United States (F / A-18E / F) and Western European states (Rafale, Typhoon, Gripen).

In terms of the efficiency / cost ratio, the MiG-29К / KUB / M / М2 is one of the most promising proposals on the world market. In connection with the cessation of production of French fighters "Mirage 2000" and the expected withdrawal from the market of the American F-16 fighter aircraft, the Russian aircraft simply will not have Western competitors in the market niche of inexpensive lightweight fighters.
According to a TASS military observer, the MiG-29K can be compared to the American carrier-based multifunctional fighter F / A-18E / F Super Hornet.

"The maximum take-off weight in favor of the American. In addition - almost 30 tons, ours - 22,5 tons. And the American can take ammunition aboard, of course, more: 8 tons versus 5,5. F-18 has a greater variety of military equipment used, as well as armament suspension nodes. But the combat radius without fuel tanks in our favor: 726 km they have against our 850 km. Above we have a practical ceiling: 15 km they have against 17,5 km we "
Viktor Litovkin

Another advantage is high maneuverability. At the same time, Litovkin explains, Russia is inferior to the United States in the number of ship-borne fighters and in the multi-purpose aircraft carrier groups themselves.
"We have only one aircraft carrier, they have 10. And they are also based on long-range radar patrol and guidance aircraft, which dramatically enhances the combat capabilities of the group. We have such a function as helicopters, whose radius of action is much smaller than that of an aircraft"
Viktor Litovkin

Perspectives in Russia

In 2013-2015 The United Aircraft Building Corporation (UAC) supplied the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation with 20 MiG-29KR units and four MiG-29KUBR units under the 29 contract in February 2012. Russian Navy.

20 March 2016 at the airfield of the Center for Combat Use and Retraining Naval Aviation (Eisk, Krasnodar Territory) began MiG-29KR / KUBR flights from the 2016 of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Navy recreated in January of the 100. .
If aircraft of the MiG-29М / М2 family will allow to keep the niche of light fighters of the ground group, and the creation of the new MiG-35 will bring it close in combat capabilities to the fifth generation fighters, the ship's MiG-29K will eventually become the main naval aircraft of the Russian Navy.

Where is Su-33 ?? ... this car would seriously enhance the power of Kuznetsov ....

In the future, having upgraded to the level of the Su-35, I will operate in conjunction with the carrier-based Su-50 (there are already plans) ... no "Nimitz" or "Ford" with their F-35 will be lying around.

At the moment, Russia has only one multipurpose carrier-based fighter, the MiG-29K (KUBR). Heavy deck boat, namely T-50, if there is, it is only in "digital". Here it is necessary to take into account the fact that you will fold the wings of the T-50. If you start to create a heavy multipurpose aircraft based on the Su-33, or Su-35, then you will have to heavily weight the already heavy fighter. Because in order to land when returning to an aircraft carrier with expensive unused guided weapons (and this is a prerequisite for creating a deck), you will have to greatly enhance the fighter, for "Drying" this is already a lot, this time. Secondly, the creation of a deck boat is the most expensive pleasure, the creation of the MiG shipbuilder was paid for by the Indians. And thirdly, there is no order for the development of a promising aircraft carrier, so why throw a couple of tens of billions into the pipe. And if we compare the effectiveness of the Su-33 and MiG-29KUBR, then it is inappropriate, the MiG-29K (KUBR) is a multi-purpose vehicle, and the Su-33 is a pure fighter. with the MiG "Kuzya" after modernization will become a full-fledged aircraft carrier capable of performing both strike and escort functions. Photo "Vikra" and MiGs, the Indians are very happy with both the ship and the plane. On the whole, it is necessary to revive the program for the construction of aircraft carriers, so that there is where to place both heavy and light fighters, but for now there are enough existing types.

Su-34 developments to help. Will it be hard to land? Americans B-25 planted on their aircraft carriers at the time ... today you can come up with something.
And the T-50 could just become a fighter-cover. Breaking his wings ... I agree ... it's not such an easy task, they are all such stealths, etc. But they will come up with ... if they could rivet such an airplane.

But the aircraft carrier armed with the MiG-29K alone ... will still be weak. Moreover, there will not be 20 such aircraft carriers ... but only 2 maximum in the coming years.

Somehow I got to an article that described work in the USSR on an atomic aircraft carrier screen. The topic is very interesting and confident having the right to life. I think this is a more acceptable path for us than the construction of aircraft carriers.
And the conversation was about the ekranolet, and not the ekranoplan. The ekranolet is capable of flying like an airplane, unlike the ekranoplan, and at the same time it works like the last. And the construction time, in comparison with the aircraft carrier, will be much less. And with a good series, in a relatively good period, we can get a mobile high-speed aircraft carrier fleet, which really will have no analogues.

As for work on land, in Syrian conditions, without containers, he will be blind.

Hindus actively equip Damocles and Rafael Litening (here MKI theirs for example) for work on the earth. Domestic T-220 (OAO NPK SPP) and Sapsan (UOMZ) are still prototypes. By the way, UOMZ and Tales, even in 2012, could start stamping the container according to the Catherine scheme, but then there was no customer and no money, and in 2014 Tales had his hands twisted and a refusal started.

It would be better to finish the fifth and the same target designation containers, a thing very necessary, you can create fighters two, three tons easier in dry weight than now.

The MIG-29 is a good car, but a modernized Su-33 with a modern breo would be much better. It is unfortunate that there is no marine modification of the su-35. A heavy aircraft has a much wider range, a more powerful airborne radar and a larger bomb load. It’s bad that the instant-29k doesn’t have afar radar, but the super hornet has it installed.
    1. Pushkar77
      Pushkar77 9 July 2016 13: 05
You see, in order to cram a modern avionics in the Su-33, you need to return to the R&D stage, that is, start from scratch. Target designation containers are needed, but there is something to hear about them. The fact that the MiG does not have a PFAR, AFAR, with good characteristics, you are right here, it is there, but they categorically do not want to finish it. In the future, they will install the grate, but according to the written TTX, it is inferior to the AFAR which was developed for the Hindus and which now lies on the shelf. A lot of our programs are neutered. The elections are coming soon, so maybe the money will be transferred to the social. programs. But most importantly, we do not have a program for the development of an aircraft carrier fleet, which management seems unnecessary, therefore, they are not involved in the development of heavy deck vehicles, because they require heavy aircraft carrier platforms.

Nothing prevents the upgrade of the Su-33 to an almost modern level. CM3, CM. Until the Su-30/35, as I understand it, the glider will not allow updating. A glass cockpit, a radar with a PFAR or AFAR, is quite capable of expanding the range of missiles. I think this is the next stage. At a range of Su-33 using AFAR and Avax will not be needed ...

      Money is a hindrance.

      Actually, therefore, they refused.

The Hindus ordered 45 cars and the MiG-29K / UB went to them for the Navy with a steam train - quite a bit of money came out (the Indians paid the main costs + production).

With the Su-33 is a different situation. There are no foreign customers and never will be. At the same time, the order for modernization will be on-board at 16. That is, you have to pay for the development of the side (even if most of them will be transferred from Su-30/35), develop the whole mechanism, cooperation, and begin modernization. And all this on 16 boards. Everyone and the F-22 will beat for the price.

Plus, the Su-33 has no UB version, a crutch in the form of the Su-25UTG is attached to them. But the MiG has a UB version and they don’t need a crutch in the form of a UTG (only for basic training of young pilots and the first landings, unless). And the UB version, by the way, is not only good as a training one, but also for complex tasks, for example, searching and guiding against ground targets in the same Syria (but everything rests on the container, there's really nothing to look for). UTG I recall a purely training machine, pylons and all weapons dismantled, the board is lightened.

Even experienced passengers fly (everyone has their first landing, their first landing after a year's break, training on the simulator, the first landing and take-off from the simulator, etc.). On the Su-33 is impossible. Therefore, they came up with the Su-25UTG - cutting off everything superfluous from it (including weapons, a gun, sighting systems — covering everything with plugs) and squeezing the take-off weight by 3 tons easier.

On MiG - you can roll in without a layer in the form of a Su-25UTG, and on a full-fledged KUB board.

Automation will cope, only for a stationary target - for example, a strategic barn or something similar. But in terms of moving targets, as well as those that need to be searched (for example, on a free hunt, the same Su-34s felt great in Syria) - without an aiming system in any way, but the MiG does not. This is solved either by the built-in (like the Su-34) or container.

UTG copes with this? Have you removed your armor? In terms of combat effectiveness, the MiG-29 is very inferior to the Su-33.
This is always decided by the container, especially if there is not enough space on the plane because it is small.

I hope the work on the deck fighter of a new generation is already underway. By the time the aircraft carrier was built by the 2030, there should already be a serial deck t-50 and a prototype of the sixth generation aircraft.

Your words, yes, to God in the ears ... but based on the current terms of building ships for the fleet, it is very unlikely that the Russian aircraft carrier will appear by 2030. Not to mention the deck version of the T50 and / or 6 generation aircraft. And if he needed? In addition to the aircraft aviamatki need support. 2-3 destroyer, 1-2 cruisers, supply ships, developed coastal infrastructure, air group, a lot of research and development, expenses for crew training and so on.

The deck of the t-50 may appear in the middle of the 20's. I think that the developers laid such an opportunity initially. And the sixth generation is likely to be unmanned and hypersonic, otherwise it makes no sense.

Appear, then it may appear, but where will it fly from? If Kuznetsov is used as a carrier, then for the 2 dozens of planes, it makes little sense to make a new modification of the T50. Yes, and without a catapult, there will be limitations on armaments, That is, a paradox is obtained ... There is no aircraft carrier, there is no point in making an airplane, there is no aircraft, there is no aircraft carrier

There is a refueling system on the MiG. But who will refuel? Each other using overhead refueling systems? There is no special board for this. Do pilots work out this component?
There are a lot of questions. There is little trust in the appearance of the deck, based on the T-50. Especially when the number of these aircraft is voiced, in the usual version.

I will add five kopecks for India - a lot of people have visited India in Goa, but few have noticed that in this wonderful state, at a common with civilian airfield, there is a training center for carrier-based aviation. with its own "thread", educational buildings, helicopter hangars. Russian specialists still work there. lucky to observe departures in pairs of dryers.

The MiG-29K will then increase the combat power of the Kuznetsov, 'but how many pilots for this aircraft are really ready for the next trip to Mediterranean?

So far, only 15 (!) Aircraft have been reported, that is, 8-10 Su-33s, which are already on the Kuznetsov deck for centuries, and 5-7 MiGs (out of 24 put into service) So it turns out?

I hope this is inaccurate information and the media is wrong.

On the other hand, in this campaign the ship Ka-52K will also try ...

"It was developed in the 1980s by the team Separate Design Bureau of Plant No. 155 (OKB named after A. Mikoyan, now - JSC "Russian Aircraft Corporation" MiG ") under the leadership of chief designer Mikhail Waldenberg, later significantly modernized.
In the USSR, the MiG-29K was built in single copies at the Moscow machine-building plant "Znamya Truda" (now - production complex number 2 of JSC "RSK" MiG ")."
This is from what sources took information for the article?
All the life of the OKB - it was just an EXPERIMENTAL design bureau. OKB them. A.I. Mikoyan, it is OKB 155, it is MMZ "Zenith". Next, about single copies. There were only 3 of them: two flight ("9-31 / 1" and "9-31 / 2") and one for statistical tests. All three were based on pilot production, i.e. at MMZ "Zenith".
