Russia has destroyed more than half of the stockpiles of chemical weaponsIn accordance with the plan for the implementation of the presidential program "Destruction of chemical weapons in the Russian Federation ”to 26 December 2011 of the year in Russia 60% of previously declared stockpiles of chemical weapons were destroyed, reports TSAMTO.

This was announced by Viktor Kholstov, Director of the Department for the Implementation of Conventional Commitments of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia.

In the process of destruction of chemical weapons stockpiles, priority is given to ensuring technical and environmental safety, creating a social infrastructure in the areas where chemical weapons destruction facilities are located, protecting the health of personnel and the population living in the area of ​​protective measures, and international cooperation.

Many years of successful accident-free operation of chemical weapons destruction facilities is carried out thanks to advanced domestic technologies for the disposal of toxic substances, coordinated actions of the Federal Directorate for the safe storage and destruction of chemical weapons at the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia.

As part of the final stage IV of the elimination of chemical weapons, Russia will have to destroy the remaining stocks of toxic agents in a short time. The country has everything for the successful implementation of this strategic task.

Russia, having passed the next frontier of the Program, reaffirmed its commitment to the rigorous implementation of its international obligations under the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on Their Destruction, the message posted on the official website of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade.
