December 27 1979 of the year. Last war

In order to assess the events of more than thirty years ago, it is probably worth recalling the policies of the Soviet Union in those years. After all, in unstoppable zeal to expand the bloc of socialist countries and prove their superiority to antagonistic America, the communist government acted according to the method according to which all methods were good for achieving the goal. It is impossible, of course, to say that the seizure of Amin’s palace and the coup in Afghanistan were some spontaneous decisions. At that time, the country has already accumulated considerable experience.

One need only remember that the troops of the Warsaw Pact countries suppressed the revolt in 1956 in Hungary cost 7 thousands of Russian soldiers and officers, while 25 thousands of Hungarians died. And in Czechoslovakia, events developed at all on a brilliant scenario. In the summer of 1968, the Prague airfield received a message from a Soviet transport aircraft, which, due to a malfunction, requested a landing. After that, the special forces soldiers on board seized the airfield for a very short time, to which reinforcements were immediately deployed. Only a few hours were occupied by television and radio centers, the editorial offices of the largest newspapers, and then the Central Committee with all the ministers, after which the latter were sent to Moscow. In just one day, Czechoslovakia ended up in the Soviet camp. In addition, the Soviet military carried out numerous actions in Africa, Asia, and South America.

In addition, everyone remembered the Vietnamese victory, the romance of Grenada and the events in Chile.

The beginning of the war in Afghanistan can be considered 27 December 1979 of the year - the date when the assault on Amin's Palace began. In principle, the government explained the beginning of hostilities for several reasons: firstly, there was a need to turn away from the Asian republics the threat of Islamism, which, by the way, actually appeared in the winter of 1978-79 of the year in Iran after the "anti-imperialist revolution". Secondly, Moscow was required to show international solidarity with friendly people in order to strengthen the anti-imperialist camp. Moreover, the Afghan rulers are accustomed to outside help. This concerned Taraki, Amin, Babrak, Najibullah and Karzai to the same extent. Of all of them, the Taliban can be called conditionally independent only, with their following the teachings of the Prophet. Moreover, the "lured" Afghanistan has always been easier to control. Thirdly, as mentioned above, the USSR was confident in the invincibility of its own army. As a fourth reason, one can take mercenary motives in the form of second salaries and admission to the authors' special distributors for the political bureau "To the situation in" A ", which was implemented by the decision of the Central Committee of the CPSU from 12 in November 1979 of the year. To the West, who is in fact the owner of the house, and it doesn’t matter that it was just a feudal country that occupied the 108 position on the 129 list of developing countries.

[B] [/ b]
And a month before the fateful assault in Kabul, US Ambassador Dubbs was killed, and neither Islamists nor Maoists claimed responsibility for this, which Moscow interpreted as a cunning move by Amin who wanted to hide from the USSR a deal with Washington. In addition, our government decided that its Afghan counterparts were not able to maintain order in the country and accused the Americans of plans to deploy missiles on the territory of Afghanistan. Is it so - still unknown for sure.

We must not forget about the subjective factor - the personal position of Secretary General Brezhnev. About three months before the troops entered, Amin did not want to talk to him about the murder of his predecessor Taraki, which brought the Soviet leader to a heart attack and signed the death sentence for himself ...

In any case, the chronicle of the war begins with 27 December 1979 of the year. Approximately six months before this event, a secret Muslim battalion or the 154 th separate detachment of special purpose GRU, which included only Muslims, was created. Musbat, as he was called, the number in 700 people managed to secretly introduce the guard of the palace of Amin Taj-Bek. The defense itself consisted of three belts and Musbat fighters were in the middle between a powerful armed brigade and Amin's personal guard. On the day of the assault, part of the special forces neutralized the external guard. The rest got involved in the battle on the outskirts of the palace. The assault took only 40 minutes, as a result of which 7 special forces soldiers were killed. By the evening, Amina was gone. In parallel with these events, the Vitebsk and Pskov airborne divisions captured key facilities of the Afghan capital.

However, another important question remained behind the scenes: why did the Soviet Union choose the bloody scenario of changing the Afghan leader? Why it was impossible to go on the proven Hungarian or Czechoslovak variant? Some political scientists believe that the important reason for this was the career and political interest of the country's highest military. But in fact, this statement looks dubious. After all, there were sober-minded people who remembered the words of the Tsarist General Snesarev that the scenarios provided for 200 do not exclude the possibility that they can evolve along 201. In addition, it was not particularly necessary to hope for an abundant "starfall" - on the contrary, many incorrect decisions could lead to serious penalties.

In addition, the Afghan war could not be calculated economically, and as a result, the 10-year load on the USSR was not the last reason for its subsequent collapse. The resources of Afghanistan itself, too, were not particularly taken into account. And the arms race for something had to continue. And the old slogan "We will not stand up for the price!" proved to be ineffective in the new geopolitical situation.

Ultimately, 620000 military personnel passed through Afghanistan, of which 14453 people paid with their lives, went missing or were captured: 417 people became disabled: 10751 people. The titles of the Hero of the Soviet Union were awarded to 71 people, of whom 25 - posthumously. Think about them 27 December.
Time "H" for country "A"

27 December 1979 of the year, exactly at 19.30 Kabul time on the radio broadcast the signal “STORM-333” - the signal to launch an attack on the residence of the head of Afghanistan Hafizullah Amin. At the same time, a multi-barreled anti-aircraft guns opened heavy fire on a palace on a high hill. Under cover of armor, the assault groups began advancing towards the target. The task was set clearly and unambiguously: not to enter negotiations, not to take prisoners, to destroy Amin ...

The last war of the Empire. Afghanistan

The theme of the film was the fateful decision of the Soviet leadership to send troops to Afghanistan. It cannot be said that this problematics has experienced and lacks commentators and analysts. It seemed that the end of 70-x - the beginning of 80-s was already sufficiently worked out in all directions, because there were also memories of the KGB special forces who killed H. Amin, the Afghan dushmans who fought with the “shuravi”, Soviet generals retired and many, many others related to this nearly a decade war.
It is impossible to say that we learn something fundamentally new about those events that were more than twenty years ago. Yes, the president of revolutionary Afghanistan Taraki asked A. Kosygin to send Soviet military equipment, as well as soldiers and officers to his country, but no one would know about it. Yes, Yu. Andropov and D. Ustinov insisted on the introduction of troops into Afghanistan, and A. Gromyko joined this decision. Yes, the KGB special forces “cleared out” President Amin in his palace. Yes, the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan was triggered by a monstrous civil war, which, in fact, has not ended yet.
But still one circumstance which has already become a tendency cannot be ignored. We are talking about the so-called “proverbs”, when the creators of this or that film or program can, while creating the much-needed, according to Mr. Fradkov, positive things for the Russians, suddenly in the most innocent place they completely unintentionally speak out.
The fact is that the familiar passages of Mr. Borovik about the great and terrible confrontation between the USA and the USSR, the CIA and the KGB suddenly broke a more than seditious thought that the greatness of our armed forces and special services in those years was another myth, and incompetent and at the same time tragic events in Afghanistan became a clear confirmation of this. Then the KGB was more concerned about catching those who wanted to leave the “socialist paradise”, and the high military ranks enthusiastically mastered the suburban dachas.

The goblin correctly answered all these questions:

“The reason for leaving was not a military defeat. There was no defeat. The reason for leaving was purely ideological - the presence of a spotted communist in power. Alas, the ideologists by that time were complete idiots - from among those who were expelled for lack of progress in drill. There were no tasks in Afghanistan. They did not build collective farms, did not establish Soviet power. The army carried out its tasks successfully, and the rest ... The rest of the army does not concern.

Why is war necessary at all? Each serious power has its own interest. The superpower, which was the Soviet Union, had an even more serious interest. War for a state is like an exercise with a barbell. He came up, took, pulled, picked up. Or could not lift. A power only then becomes a power when it decisively imposes its will on others, less powerful. Which are not even suitable for the bar. You are strong - and they reckon with you. You are weak - and your feet are being wiped about you.

What are the usual goals of war? The war is needed in order to seize and occupy the territory, after which the population is either assimilated, or as it is customary for many to be cut out. In Afghanistan, there was nothing like this: the population was not assimilated, the territory was controlled only where it was needed. Primitive, I repeat, nobody needs. And nobody also needs their caves.

When the command arrived, the Soviet army left. The safety of the retreat of the Soviet army was provided by the most authoritative citizens from among the local residents. I repeat for the especially developed: the withdrawal of troops is not a defeat. Which, of course, does not prevent the Afghans from believing that they again defeated everyone. Well, to our homegrown idiots, too.

The Soviet Union went to the bar, took it off the rack, and lifted it. And then he carefully laid it back on the flyer. To if that - raise one more time.

Lying. The reason is a military defeat.
We used to laugh at the losses of the US Air Force in Vietnam, but few know that the 40 Air Force army lost 517 airplanes and helicopters in Afghanistan.

In Vietnam, a real army with fighter aircraft, MiG-21 and stationary air defense systems fought against the US Air Force. In Afghanistan, against our pilots fought a rag with a primitive air defense, without aviation and modern detection systems. All their weapons are old DShKs and a couple of hundred Stingers. And 517 shot down and crashed Soviet aircraft and helicopters.

The USSR Air Force showed its incompetence and low training of flight personnel.

Did the Afghan ragged people have the S-75 air defense system? NO, IT WAS NOT.
And the army of North Vietnam had 60 divisions (according to the USSR Ministry of Defense)

Dushmans had P-15 long-range radars (detection range at high altitudes - up to 180 km)? THERE WAS NOTHING LIKE ANYTHING

Did the dushmans have their own aviation? NO, NEVER BEEN.
And HUNDREDS of the MiG-17, MiG-19, MiG-21 (the latest fighters at that time) acted against the US Air Force over Vietnam.

The Vietnamese massively used 57 mm ZU, automatic ZU-23-2, mobile air defense systems "Strela-2" .... Afghan dushmans had nothing like this.
The aircraft of the 40 Army, to be honest, worked under sparing conditions, nevertheless, the losses were suspiciously high, which indicates the low training of the flight personnel and equipment.

If you do not agree with the numbers, well then, then you should receive George Orwell at the Ministry of Truth.

Of course, they shot down Rutsky, for example, already twice ... That is why war-losses are inevitable. But what does defeat have to do with it, what was it expressed in? We did not flood cities and villages with auls with napalm, we did not purposefully destroy the civilian population. the tasks were completely different. We built schools and hospitals, roads and water pipelines, but there were no commands: "WIN", the words of B. GROMOV, now the Afghans themselves say in interviews that it would be better if the Shuravi remained forever. The troops left with a parade deployed SIGNS - the eternal memory of the FALLEN and the glory of the ALIVE. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE to speak so scornfully, poorly knowing the realities, about your history, about the fulfillment of your compatriots' military duty.

"And here is the defeat ..." belay
But with it. The 40 army did not fulfill the task before it.

          1. All attempts to destroy the influential leaders of the Dushmans failed. The vast majority of field commanders survived and safely met the end of the war.

          2. Attempts to establish pro-Soviet power in Afghanistan and gain the support of the population completely failed, due to gross mistakes made by the army.

          3. Control over the territory of Afghanistan was lost immediately after the invasion, the Soviet troops were afraid to lean out of the checkpoints.

          4. High losses that our army suffered during the campaign period

WINNING - it was always like in the war song of those years "until we crush the dushman in the last gorge of Afgan." But we LOST

"We did not flood cities and villages with auls with napalm, we did not purposefully destroy the peaceful population."

Come on you nonsense fill. War is war. Official statistics - up to 2 million dead Afghans.
Read the memoirs of tankmen who fought on the "Buratino" MLRS (those who use volume-detonating ammunition) and why these guys were so afraid of being captured by the local residents. The Afghans loved them very much.

Read about the withdrawal of troops in 1989, how civilians threw houses and spent the night along the roads along which our convoys went so as not to get hit by an air strike - the valiant aircraft of the 40 Army Air Force washed roadside villages into dust.

And especially the Afghans are grateful to the Shuravi for the mines with which we bombarded the whole country

In the end, it’s our fault that they have had a war going on for 30 years. Before the Soviet invasion, Afghanistan was a peaceful, sleepy state living under secular laws.

Colonel General Gromov, the last commander of the 40th Army (led the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan), in his book "Limited Contingent" expressed this opinion regarding the victory or defeat of the Soviet Army in Afghanistan:

** I am deeply convinced that there is no reason to argue that the 40th Army was defeated, nor that we won a military victory in Afghanistan. At the end of 1979, Soviet troops entered the country unhindered, carried out — unlike the Americans in Vietnam — their tasks and organizedly returned to their homeland. If we consider the armed forces of the opposition as the main enemy of the Limited contingent, the difference between us is that the 40th Army did what it considered necessary, and the Dushmans only what they could. The 40th Army had several main tasks. First of all, we had to assist the government of Afghanistan in resolving the domestic political situation. Basically, this assistance consisted in the fight against armed opposition groups. In addition, the presence of a significant military contingent in Afghanistan was supposed to prevent outside aggression. These tasks by the personnel of the 40th Army were fully completed. For the limited contingent, no one ever set the task of winning a military victory in Afghanistan. All the military operations that the 40th Army had to carry out from 1980 until almost the last days of our stay in the country were either proactive or responsive. Together with government forces, we conducted military operations only to prevent attacks on our garrisons, airfields, convoys and communications that were used to transport goods. At the same time, more than 70% of the forces and means of the 40th Army were constantly involved in the transportation of humanitarian goods across Afghanistan. This hard work did not stop until the last day of the limited contingent of Soviet troops in Afghanistan.
Thanks to Soviet supplies and the activities of our specialists, the country's economy has grown stronger and, figuratively speaking, has risen to its feet.

** Gromov’s opinion on the outcome of the war can be agreed, since the Mujahideen have never been able to carry out a single major operation, not to mention events of the caliber of the Tet offensive in Vietnam, and failed to occupy any more or less large city.

I don’t know who dreamed of going to Afghanistan, but I prayed to God that instead of Afghanistan, I was sent to serve in the Northern Fleet. Of our city, of all those who fought in Afghanistan, 15 people did not return home. And I do not think that their mothers are proud of the death of their sons. The Herat rebellion forced the reinforcement of Soviet troops near the Soviet-Afghan border: the 68th Motorized Rifle Division (MFD) was later redeployed to Termez from the Central Asian Military District (VO), which later returned to its district. By order of the Minister of Defense, preparations began for a possible landing by the landing method of the 105th Guards Airborne Division (Guards Airborne Forces) from the territory of Turkestan Military District (TurkVO).

In addition, there were deployed three FFM TurkVO (58, 108, 5th Guards), with which exercises were held in April, after completion of which solder composition was sent home.
In the first decade of December, the so-called. “Muslim battalion” (a special-purpose detachment of the Main Intelligence Directorate - the GRU of the General Staff, specially formed in the summer of 1979 to protect N. Taraki and perform special tasks in Afghanistan). There, on December 14, a battalion of the 345th guards separate paratrooper regiment (guards. Oppd) was deployed to reinforce the battalion of the 111th guards. pdp 105th guards. the Airborne Forces, which since July 7, 1979 guarded Soviet military transport planes and helicopters in Bagram (in the autumn of the same year, the battalion became part of the 345th regiment).
Until December 25, 1979, about 100 formations and units were deployed, an army set of combat and rear support units. In the Turkestan military district - field directorate of the 40th Combined Arms Army (OA), 2 motorized rifle divisions (5th Guards Infantry Brigade in Kushka and 108th Infantry Brigade in Termez), 353rd Army Artillery Brigade, 2nd Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade (zbrb), 56th guards. air assault brigade (dshbr), 45th engineer and sapper regiment (isp), 103rd communication regiment (ops), combat and rear support units. In the Central Asian Military District - control of the 34th mixed air corps, 860th separate motorized rifle regiment (Omsp), the 186th MSP (which entered the 108th MRF).
В three divisions were mobilized as a reserve (58th FFMD - in Turkestan Military District, 68th and 201st FFM - in Central Asian Military District). The aviation structure included 2 aviation regiment of fighter-bombers (apib), 1 fighter aviation regiment (IAP) and 2 helicopter regiments, parts of aviation technical and airfield support.

More than 50 thousand people from the Central Asian republics and Kazakhstan were called up for outfitting them, from the national economy about 8 thousand cars and other equipment were transferred. It was the largest mobilization deployment in the post-war period.
So partisan reservists they didn’t sit in any trenches, hang out in Termez for a couple of weeks and go home.

Evaluating the entry of Soviet troops into Afghanistan from a military point of view (without giving a political assessment), it should be noted that, on the whole, the introduction was well planned and prepared, despite a number of difficulties in manning the formations and equipment with assigned personnel and equipment.

The deployment of TurkVO divisions in the spring of 1979 allowed us to gain experience in mobilizing the reserve personnel, which was used during the deployment in December 1979. Despite the winter, severe climatic conditions, commissioning took place without incident and heavy losses (25 people died from December 31 to 82, of which 29 were casualties, or 35%).

Successful actions of the 103rd Guards. Airborne forces in Kabul were due to the fact that the command of the paratroopers in the link of the battalion regiment, in October 1979, carried out covert reconnaissance of state and military facilities in the Afghan capital, the capture of which they carried out during Operation Storm-333.

The special forces of the GRU and the KGB proved to be very successful, having received their first baptism of fire in Afghanistan: during the storming of the Taj Beck Palace, acting against the guards, exceeding the attacker's strength by three times, they were able to suppress enemy resistance and capture the palace with minimal losses.

Someone (I do not remember who) once said: "This is worse than a crime, this is a mistake!" The entire USSR paid a terrible, bloody price for this mistake. Now we are nostalgic for the USSR, this is correct, this is natural. But I personally curse the pack of senile people who ruined a great country with their stupidity with all imaginable curses. And Gorbachev is from the same pack, and everyone who came after him. Now many people like to remember how good it was in the Union, but they are reluctant to remember Afghan. This sucks guys.

This is not a mistake or a crime, it is the realization of imperial ambitions and the army as the main tool of the empire proved to be excellent, and the heroism of the fighters is unconditional, unfortunately a spot appeared on the head of the empire and it turned out to be a cancer of its brain, in this situation the sword was sheathed and a question imperial ambitions faded into the background.

That is, in your opinion, Brezhnev and the company were right?

I am not judging Brezhnev and the company there are many dark spots, I assess the operation "Afghanistan" as it was carried out by the military who received the order - and they carried it out competently
I also can’t condemn Brezhnev, because everything is muddy, and this way and that they turn it around, and many convicts in their time and Chechnya demanded that they give independence

about the implementation of imperial ambitions and the army as the main instrument of the empire

Maybe this was done in a very clumsy way, but H. Amin’s contacts with the CIA took place and could greatly harm our state. A solution was needed and it was chosen. Maybe not the best, but ours showed themselves to be real fighters !! The operation went against all the laws of tactics !!!!!

there will be many more bazaars about this and this article from them
that's just the main question I have not seen anywhere
WHY TAKE OILS AND NOT TRANSFER?
Any conscript of the mountain who knows this, not to mention the General Staff, who owns the passes, owns everything
only a person with a climber training and equipment can take a pass, rotate compressors there, rotate cavities and go around it, but don’t caravan donkeys and camels in mountain climbing
and were engaged in any garbage
for the guys the third toast
