Lockheed Martin will be releasing the latest F-22 Raptor, the fifth generation fighter, on Marietta on Tuesday from Lockheed Martin from the company's assembly shop. This will be the 195 th aircraft. Despite the crown of the best fighter in the world, the F-22 fell victim to the Pentagon and Congress, limiting the mass production of the aircraft.
Critics have long heard complaints about the high cost of the aircraft, which is approximately 140 million dollars, as well as allegations that Raptors, after the end of the Cold War, do not have a clear mission. F-22 was practically not used to combat international terrorism, and also did not work in Afghanistan and Iraq.
On the part of the Raptor defenders, on the contrary, it says that today in Russia and China they are developing stealth fighters of the F-22 class.
Lockheed Martin won the F-22 competition in April 1991. On Sunday early morning 7 September 1997, the first aircraft of this type flew. Piloted his test pilot Paul Metz. The company originally planned to build 1,4 thousand aircraft of this type, but the number of ordered aircraft decreased every year.
Prototypes YF-22 built at a plant in the city of Palmdale (California), but mass production was organized at a plant in Marietta.
