The NATO Council yesterday approved the appointment of the American General Curtis Scaparotti to the new commander of the joint forces in Europe, reports RIA News message of the press service of the alliance.
“General Scaparotti will take office and replace General Philip Breedlove, commander-in-chief of NATO’s Allied Command in Europe, upon the completion of the approval process in the United States,” the report said.
The release also notes that "at present, General Scaparotti is commanding joint forces of the United Nations and the United States in the Republic of Korea."
Scaparotti should change the current commander of Bridlava in the spring, presumably in May.
According to analysts, the new commander "will lead NATO troops in Europe at the time of increasing funding (up to $ 3,4 billion), and he will have to coordinate the creation of a new armed group in Eastern Europe", the final decision on which will be made in July at the summit alliance.
