In 1942, in the Urals, an idea arose to create national funds tank body. It was on public funds - from the state budget, which experienced tremendous pressure during the Great Patriotic War, that a penny was not spent on the formation of the tank corps.
In 1943, the idea of the Ural workers was brought to life. As part of the Red Army, the 10 Panzer Division appeared, which later became the name of the Guards Ural-Lviv, Order of the October Revolution Red Banner, the Order of Suvorov and Kutuzov, a volunteer, named after Marshal Malinovsky.
The equipment of the tank corps was carried out by workers of three regions: Molotovskaya (now the Perm Territory), Sverdlovsk and Chelyabinsk. Workers worked above the norm and made voluntary contributions. In the Wehrmacht division called the "Black Knives". This name is due to the fact that tankers received more than 3,3 thousands of special knives as a gift from workers of Zlatoust.
It should be noted that applications for admission to the volunteer corps were submitted by almost 115 thousands of workers, of whom about 10 thousands were selected at the first stage. Many of them subsequently joined the tank division, having passed the appropriate training.
Since 2013, the holiday has been celebrated not only in the Sverdlovsk Region, but throughout Russia as an example of the people’s selfless labor for the good of the Motherland.
