Turkish news agencies have reported that today in the city of Nusaybin, where Turkish security forces are conducting an operation against the Kurdish population, there was a powerful explosion in the area of police barracks. According to preliminary data, as a result of the explosion, two policemen died, and about 10 were injured of varying degrees of severity. Representatives of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, an organization whose activities are officially banned in Turkey, claimed responsibility for the blasts.
Reports say that after the explosion of a car filled with explosives, the attackers opened fire on the building of the police barracks from grenade launchers. Four more employees of the Turkish police were injured.
According to the information service of the Turkish TV channel T24, an explosion and rocket-propelled grenade fire damaged several armored vehicles in close proximity to a police facility in Nusaybin.
The governor of the province of Mardin, which borders Syria, claims that at least 35 civilians were injured in the blast and shelling. Representatives of the PKK say that this is a lie of the official authorities of Turkey, aimed at continuing the military operation against the Kurdish population of the south-east of the country. According to PKK members, who took responsibility for the shelling of a police object, the wounded have nothing to do with the civilian population of the city, but are employees of the Turkish security forces.
