Kinmen: an outpost of Taiwan off the coast of the PRC

32
Kinmen is an archipelago and a large island of the same name, located literally on the very shores of the People’s Republic of China, but belonging to Taiwan. The population of the islands is approximately 128 people; Kinmen has several small towns and a power station. But its main significance is historical and military. To this day, the islands are a powerful fortified area. Although tourists are now allowed into some facilities, all of them remain operational. The underground structures here are also impressive, which are cut down deep in the rocks.

Kinmen: an outpost of Taiwan off the coast of the PRC

The islands are literally packed with various artillery. In particular, these 240-mm guns are quite capable of fighting back. From time to time on the islands are carried out exercises on the defense of the landing, which is very unnerving neighbors from the continent.

Not forgotten and guns and information warfare. Exactly, as on the line of demarcation between North and South Koreas.

The coast is cut by pillboxes, and the entire coastline is covered with structures that should prevent the landing of troops. In some places the coast is mined, as are the adjacent groves. On the rocks, broken glasses are inserted into the frozen piles of cement. The one who will climb on them, you will not envy.

In October, 1949, after the proclamation of the People's Republic of China and the actual victory of the communists on the continent, a decisive battle took place between the armies of the two Chinas on Kinmen. The landing of the Communists was defeated, and Mao Zedong had to forget about the further march on Taiwan, as the Korean War soon began. In honor of this victory, many memorable memorials were erected on the island.

Although some defenses were removed in 2007-09, most of them remain in place. And given the victory in the elections in Taiwan supporters of independence from the continent, we can expect the emergence of new objects.

Well Duc, the Chinese have not tried it yet. These "fortifications" will only help against attacks by live waves. And what will they do if the Chinese disembark from helicopters directly to the center of the island?

yes, archaic fortifications will help in the modern war too ... all these beautiful 240mm cannons are good for a museum, they have no chance against tactical missiles ... and even if there is a landing, it’s definitely not like in 49 ...

Apparently, in the 49th, Stalin did not waste his strength and render assistance to China on these islands. We found a more interesting place in Korea, a dump was set up there. During this time, the islands were rebuilt and it was too late to capture them. But it wasn’t a problem to capture them. Good plan + preparation + VKS will lead to Victory.

        - The fact is that the Amerikos seriously cling to Taiwan. A military agreement is available.

So the question is rather political.

Let us recall at least the first world war with the "Maginot Line", which was supposed to stop the Germans, as a result, the whole war stood idle and did not stop the Germans from entering them deep into France.

What is a maginot in 1 world? And in World War II, the Maginot line was broken without problems where they needed to. Stupidly shooting the fortifications in the La Fer district of 210 mm howitzers. And panzer forverst, right across the Ardennes.

they just left it as anti-advertising of Taiwanese and "for sweet" which they can take at any moment for a long time (about 60 years old, Taiwan itself with acceptable damage cannot yet)

Bottom 3 photo, it says it all! Why should China not land, it’s enough to show the pace of development? The aid from the United States will decrease — Taiwan will join itself.

But the Chinese, too, are not rams to climb on the rage, they just can now bomb these fortifications with rocket salvos. But there will be no war, because then China will still need to be invested in the restoration of the destroyed, but why destroy what you think is your own?

Poor inhabitants of the island, you can’t buy the sea, either you will step on the pin, then on a mine. Certainly, in the event of an aggravation of the situation, China will not even need to storm the island, they will impose a blockade and the inhabitants themselves will give up hunger.
There, the population density of 640 people per square. kilometer.

This is an object of distraction, as well as broken bottles. The Chinese are on the attack, and then this thing - the Chinese are in shock, they immediately lay down and sent scouts, and those to land mines. So you can stop the attack for two hours. And on the other hand, until the flag is removed from this figovina, you can show on TV that the island has not yet been completely captured.

Do the China dochers think they’ve been shown everything?) But the barrel artillery against the landing craft is very, especially direct fire. Because the distance for the missiles is too small.
I especially amused vyser about "enough to show the pace of development.")))) Clown, have you seen Taipei at least?)

If you establish a complete blockade of the islands (if it suddenly), then no fortifications will help. For a long time, but for sure. But for this, China's fleet is weak.

        - In many countries, on top of high stone fences of mansions, such a chip is used.

        In South Africa, for example.

My neighbor so strengthened his stone fence. Sharp glass protruded from the last masonry, but the thief didn’t see it from the ground. He also digged a hole under this fence. And put balloons in them. On top of the cardboard and sprinkled with earth. I I saw this sapper work from my site, I asked-Why belay... ??? He explained that at night the thieves to his garden will begin to climb over the fence, jump into these "holes". The balls will burst. Noise-bang !!! He will wake up and catch them bully But the funniest thing happened in the evening, when he usually unfastens his dog ... The dog sat on a leash all day and watched as the owner was digging something at the fence. And when he was let loose, he immediately darted to these balls-- - start throwing paws of cardboard and tearing balls with your teeth wassat And he’s ill with him, until he has bitten everything into the hands of his master lol Here is such a "Jinmen" I live in the neighborhood fool )))))

Well, for the sake of completeness, I must add that these 240 mm cannons "reach" mainland China. A trifle but you have to take into account.
And there are several such outposts: artillery and tactical missiles reach large Chinese metropolitan areas.

The place is interesting, I would like to take a walk there.
I read somewhere that during an attempt by the Communists to land there, the Kuomintang repulsed the attack with the help of Stuart tanks, one of which, after running out of ammunition, crushed the advancing caterpillars. That is what earned the nickname "Jinmeng Bear".
