A detachment of Pacific Fleet ships, led by the Varyag missile cruiser, entered the Indian Ocean. According to the press service of the Pacific fleet, Russian ships will take part in the Indra Navy 2015 Russian-Indian naval exercises (Indra Navy-2015). In addition to the Varyag, the squad of ships includes: the destroyer Bystry, the rescue tugboat Alatau, and the tanker Boris Butoma. All ships of the Pacific Fleet successfully passed the Strait of Malacca and headed for the Indian port of Vishakhapatnam, where joint maneuvers of the fleets of the two countries will be officially opened.
TASS news agency reports that on the way to the Indian port, the Russian ships have completed the tasks of air defense warrants.
The official representative of the fleet Roman Martov:
During the fulfillment of the combat service tasks, the crews of the ships completed the tasks of the air defense of the warrant, training of the anti-terror unit, anti-ship maneuvers, operations of the ships for fighting for survivability and replenishment of stocks at sea.
A squad of Russian ships left Vladivostok on November 2 and during the transition managed to conduct several exercises of various orientations, including anti-piracy maneuvers in the area of the Malacca Strait, where numerous pirate groups are operating, keeping the merchant ships in these waters at bay.
