The star of Hero of Russia Lieutenant Colonel Oleg Peshkov transferred to his widow
50
Colonel-General Viktor Bondarev, Commander-in-Chief of the Air and Space Forces of the Russian Federation, at the 4 State Training Center for Aviation Personnel and Military Tests of the Russian Defense Ministry handed the star of Hero of Russia to the widow of Lieutenant Colonel Oleg Peshkov who died last week in Syria. The press service of the Russian Defense Ministry quoted Viktor Bondarev as saying:
Please accept my sincere condolences. We all share your grief and mourn with your family. Know that your husband has been and remains a true patriot and hero of our country. His name is forever inscribed in history Russia, the Russian army and the aerospace forces of our country.
Tomorrow (December 2), Lieutenant Colonel Oleg Peshkov will be buried in Lipetsk, where citizens continue to bring flowers and candles to the city pilots memorial in memory of the deceased countryman.
Recall that the Su-24M of Oleg Peshkov and Konstantin Murakhtin performed a combat mission in the skies of Syria as part of a counter-terrorist operation. In a fateful second, a pair of fighter-interceptors attacked a Russian plane, striking from behind. Oleg Peshkov and Konstantin Murakhtin were able to eject. At that moment, the militants, whose positions are located in the north of Syria, were already hunting for Russian pilots. Lieutenant Colonel Oleg Peshkov, in all likelihood, was mortally wounded before landing. Konstantin Murakhtin was able to hide from the militants in a wooded area, and a few hours later he was discovered by a search and rescue team, who escorted him to the Hmeymim airbase.
On the eve, the body of Hero of the Russian Federation Oleg Peshkov from Turkey was delivered to Russia.
