Project "ZZ". How Obama America Isolated
American historian Stephen Cohen, an expert on Russia (by the way, just returned from Moscow), writes in "The Nation" about the new stage of the Russian-American Cold War.
According to Cohen, President Putin is "systematically demonized" in the United States, compared with Stalin, Hitler. What a ridiculous thing! After all, Putin personally welcomed the opening of a large museum on October 30. stories Gulag and the construction of a memorial in the center of Moscow - a monument to millions of Stalinist victims.
Cohen also notes how the Russian people cope with the economic difficulties that have arisen in the country because of the sanctions imposed by the West and from the fall in world energy prices.
The historian further notes the bewilderment of Russians who do not understand why the US government opposes the “Putin air war” in Syria (and even condemns it). After all, Putin is fighting with the "Islamic State"!
Cohen believes that there are clear trends in European political support not for Washington, but for Moscow. In Europe, the opinion definitely prevails that, to a large extent, Putin’s actions against the Islamic State will overcome the “refugee crisis”, which now threatens the very foundations of the European Union.
The pro-Washington-Angels Merkel policy does not meet with more than enough support in Germany.
Already in the United States themselves, the political media raise the question: who has isolated whom — Obama Putin, or Putin Obama? The historian himself is clearly inclined to believe that at the present time not “Putin's Russia”, but the “Obama administration” is “isolated” in international affairs.
Other experts attribute the successes of Moscow in international politics ... to Kremlin propagandists.
CNSnews.com Announces Republican Senator Ron Johnson’s statement.
This man claims that Russian propaganda threatens “emerging democracies” in Eastern Europe. In response, the senator proposes not to cut funding for Voice of America, but to increase it.
Ron Johnson believes that the lessons of “disinformation and propaganda” that Russian President Vladimir Putin taught the world were truly effective. This senator said, speaking at the Senate hearing.
The senator believes that Voice of America’s propaganda activities are “extremely important efforts” in helping the “immature democracies” of Eastern Europe. The senator wants these countries not to fall under the influence of Putin and "remain free."
Senator was supported by Benjamin Ziff, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. He said that 1,4 billion dollars, which the Kremlin has spent on the campaign of "disinformation", is the real "attack on the truth."
Ziff does not in the least believe that there are no Russian troops in Ukraine and that Ukraine itself is in deep crisis. In his opinion, the "popular in the Kremlin" allegations of the absence of "Russian soldiers in Ukraine", that "Ukraine is on the verge of collapse," and that allegedly Americans, and not corrupt former Ukrainian leaders, are the real cause of internal discontent over abroad, - propaganda lies. This disinformation is being prepared and broadcast by Kremlin-sponsored disinformation specialists broadcasting both at home and abroad. The audience of these specialists is 600 million people in 130 countries, and the broadcast is already in 30 languages.
How to resist the propaganda of the Kremlin?
The best defense against Putin’s propaganda attacks is to carry the “truth”, that is, “reliable, reliable information,” to people around the world, Ziff believes.
The Pentagon is proposing another decision on countering Russia. It is a military department, so the statements of its high officials cannot be called peaceful.
US News and World Report quotes statements by Secretary of Defense Ash Carter. The other day, he spoke at the National Defense Forum, held at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. National security experts and Pentagon officials arrived at the event.
Without further ado, Ash Carter accused Russia of threatening “world order” on the move, reminded the audience of the “invasion of Ukraine”, of the “irresponsible statements” of the Russians about nuclear weapons. And then he said that the US defense department is looking for ways to deter Russian aggression. And that's not all: the Pentagon is also preparing to defend its American allies.
According to Mr. Carter, Russia is everywhere: it “acts at risk” at sea, in the air, in space, in cyberspace, and so on. The most terrible thing for Carter is “Moscow’s nuclear rattling weapons". He doubts that Russian leaders are going to fulfill their commitments regarding "strategic stability".
The publication believes that such statements by the head of the Pentagon turned out to be the “most rigid” attacks against Russia during the entire period of his activities as defense minister.
True, he further said that the United States did not at all “strive for a cold one,” and even a “hot war” with the Russians. Washington does not want Moscow to become his "opponent".
However, Mr. Carter immediately declared: “However, one should not be mistaken: the United States will defend its interests, its allies, the principled international order and the positive future that it (the order. - O. Ch.) Gives us all”.
What is this “principled international order” and what kind of “positive future” does Mr. Carter promise the planet?
According to him, the principles of peaceful resolution of conflicts should be protected, insisted on freedom from coercion, and respect for state sovereignty. The trouble is that "some subjects" in the international arena "are seeking to destroy these principles." And if everything is clear to “IG” Carter, since his militants “openly oppose” American “values”, then “other challenges” are much more complex and, probably, “more destructive”.
And Carter called those who are challenging: this is Russia and China. The minister believes that neither the first nor the second is able to change the world order, but both states are capable of challenging him - and they do it.
In particular, Russia, according to Carter, carries out “provocations” in Europe and the Middle East. In Europe, she violated the sovereignty of Ukraine and Georgia, and also “tried to intimidate the Baltic states”. And in Syria, Russians “add fuel” to the flames of civil war.
More Washington is worried because of Russia, said Carter. And if so, the American "combat forces and means" are adapted to implement the "strategy of deterring Russian aggression." The defense minister added that the United States is now investing in technologies that are crucial for countering "Russian provocations." Work is underway on new unmanned systems, long-range bombers, electromagnetic rail guns, lasers and electronic warfare systems. Among the latter there are "such amazing things that I can not even tell," - said Carter.
It seems that Washington cannot accept the fact that because of the “policy of containment” and the new cold war, he himself has been isolated, and Russia continues to make the world policy that even the Pentagon “worries”, not to mention its “allies” ". American politicians fear not only Russia's military might, but also propaganda, which scares them more than nuclear weapons. Undoubtedly, amid the geopolitical successes of Moscow, the American "democracy" has gone somewhere in the shadow. Obama has even dropped in the rating of Forbes magazine - Putin continues to be honored there. Against this background, the bellicose statements of the head of the Pentagon Ashe Carter do not look surprising: this is an attempt to restore the status quo of the seventies of the last century. And the world here really does not smell.
