The meeting of the Arab League will be held without representatives of Damascus
A statement by the country's Foreign Ministry said today that Damascus also refuses to participate in the 4 meeting of the Arab-Turkish forum.
The communique says: "The Syrian authorities decided not to participate in the meeting of the League of Arab States after receiving a message from the authorities of Morocco." Details are not specified.
The meeting of the League will be held under increasing political and diplomatic pressure on official Damascus, carried out mostly by Arab states and Western countries, which continue to accuse the Syrian authorities of suppressing oppositionists by force.
The League will consider further actions in relation to Syria, taking into account the events that took place on November 12. Recall that then the League of Arab States was decided to suspend the participation of Syria in the organization’s meetings. At the same time, its member states were invited to recall ambassadors from Damascus.
Official Damascus received an ultimatum - either Syria will fulfill all the points of the inter-Arab plan for the normalization of the situation in the state, or will it be subject to political and economic sanctions. The plan calls for the authorities to abandon the use of force to suppress protests, withdraw troops from cities, free arrested participants in protest marches and start a dialogue with the opposition.
Tayeb Faci Fihri, Moroccan Foreign Minister, on the eve of this, invited Syria to take part in Rabat at the next meeting of the Arab-Turkish Forum, which opens today. “If Syrian officials want to come to this event, the doors are open for them,” said Taieb Fasi Fihri.
