For a long time, the palace was under the complete control of the militants of the so-called "Islamic state". Successful operation in an interview with the news agency "Sputnik" told the representative of the Iraqi militia Karim an-Nuri:
Fighters of the Shiite militia, Sunni tribes and the Iraqi army took part in the operation to liberate the palace. Militants suffered serious losses.
Earlier, the Iraqi authorities announced the beginning of a new phase of a large-scale operation in the province of Salah al-Din. The main battles are now in the area of the city of Baiji, where the largest oil refining complexes of Iraq are concentrated.
As a result of the active offensive actions of the Iraqi army and local militias, they managed to break through the militant defenses in the south-west of the country. This was announced by the deputy of the local parliament Khaled al-Mafraji (quote RIA News):
The first line of defense of ISIL in the Havij area in Kirkuk was completely destroyed in the early hours of the day under the onslaught of the army, police, Peshmerga, militia and Arab tribes.
