Libya insists that Niger change its decision on political asylum for Gaddafi’s son
As it became known on Monday, the Libyan authorities insist that Niger reconsider its “hostile decision” regarding granting political asylum to the son of its former leader, whose name is Muammar Gaddafi Saadi, who for some time has been announced by Interpol on the international wanted list.
According to Abdelhafis Hoxha (deputy head of the Transitional National Council or PNS), Niger does not have the right to harbor criminals, and his decision to grant asylum is illegal and wrong. In addition, the Niger must understand that the consequences of such an act will not be long in coming.
President of Niger Issuf, assured that the second son of the former leader of Libya, whose name is Seif al-Islam, does not reside in the territory of the state. By the way, Interpol is also looking for him. Issufu assured that in the event of the emergence and discovery of al-Islam, the Nigerian authorities will take up consideration of his situation.
After this debate, Mr. Hoxha accused Niger of hostility towards Libya and provocative statements.
It is worth noting that the refuge for the son of Gaddafi was granted 11 November. And according to Gary Peters (one of Saadi’s personal guards), in an interview for the National Post, Saadi Gaddafi, surrounded by his personal bodyguards from around the world, secretly fled to the country Niger. However, after crossing the border (November 11), Mr. Gaddafi’s convoy was stopped. Saadi was not extradited from the country, but placed under house arrest. Today, he lives in the city of Niamey (the capital), in a comfortable villa located near the presidential palace.
According to the same Peters (bodyguard), Saadi intended to go to Canada or Mexico, but the Canadian police notified his confidant that if he found a fugitive in the territory of his country, he would immediately be arrested and deported back. Just Peters assured that the other sons of the former leader of Libya, have enough money to continue to fight for power.
Note that for Saadi Gaddafi, the arrest warrant was issued by Interpol, another 29 September. The charge that he will have to be tried is “armed intimidation”, frauds with real estate, as well as the destruction of Libyan citizens during a civil war.
On all counts, including corruption, Saadi Gaddafi does not recognize himself guilty. On the contrary, he argues that his search, as well as the persecution of his supporters, have a purely political background. Mr. Gaddafi, expressed his deepest regrets about the issuance of Interpol, regarding him, the so-called orange notice.
