"Russia is the biggest obstacle to US imperial ambitions"
The civil war in Syria lasts more than four years, and during this time it has turned into a full-scale confrontation with terror. A mass of radical extremist groups appeared in the country, the largest of which - the IG - captured vast territories in the Middle East and announced its intention to conquer Europe and Asia to the border with Pakistan by 2020.
Last September, the United States joined the fight against terrorists, creating an international anti-terrorist coalition, which included, in addition to Canada and Australia, European countries: France, Great Britain, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and so on. Also they were joined by the “Asian bloc”: Turkey, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and others. However, they did not manage to achieve a tangible result in the fight against IS.
On September 30, at the request of Syrian President Bashar Assad, the aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces of Russia launched an air operation with targeted strikes on the positions of the IG. On Monday, the media reported the first successes: three thousand militants from the IS and the Dzhebhat al-Nusra and Jaysh al-Yarmuk groups fled Syria to Jordan.
However, the more successfully the Russian videoconferencing system operates, the more claims to Russia come from the United States. For example, State Department spokesman John Kirby stated that “more than 90% of strikes (of Russia) are directed not at IS and groups associated with Al-Qaeda, but against the opposition that seeks the withdrawal of (Syrian President Bashar) Assad. At the same time, Russia more than once refuted the US statements about the strikes of the Russian Aerospace Forces in Syria against targets that do not belong to the “Islamic State”.
How will further US policy in the world, particularly in the Middle East, due to Russia's intervention in the Syrian conflict, what will be the future relations between the United States and Russia, and why it is so difficult for countries to find consensus on various issues, the US State Department political scientist William Bloom.
VIEW: Mr. Bloom, the US authorities no longer insist on the immediate overthrow of Syrian President Bashar Assad. Thus, an agreement was established between Russia and the United States at least temporarily. How long can it last?
William Bloom: You should not count on any further concessions from the United States. Yes, they agreed not to touch Assad while fighting with ISIS. But if they defeat ISIS, they will return to the fight against Assad.
VIEW: In the Syrian conflict, the United States rely on moderate opposition. Does it really exist? How do you evaluate the current US policy in the Middle East?
W. B.: I am not sure that there is moderate opposition. We can say for sure: all groups have their own goals. Some fight with Turkey, others against Iraq, and others against Hezbollah. In addition, part of the militants after they were trained by the United States, went over to the side of ISIS.
It is impossible to single out a single positive trait in US policy on global dominance. I, for example, believe that the government in the countries of the Middle East should be secular, not religious. The secular government, for example, was in Afghanistan: there women had the right to even wear short skirts. Then the USA came and overthrew him - the government changed to a religious one. The same fate befell Iraq, then Libya, where, by the way, was the highest standard of living in Africa. And now we got to Syria.
What happened as a result of all these coups? There came ISIS. I do not know any simple, quick solutions, how to defeat this grouping. Undoubtedly, the enemy should not be considered Syria, not Assad, but ISIS - that would be a constructive step. But the goal of the United States is not so much to smash ISIS as to fight the Kurds, Hamas and Hezbollah.
VIEW: As soon as Russia launched an operation in Syria, the United States and its allies, including Europe, made claims that the targets of the air strikes were chosen incorrectly and, in general, Russian intervention was a big mistake.
WB: Now the second Cold War is in full swing. If in the course of the first, we Americans were taught that there is no truth in Pravda, and there are no truths in Izvestia News or news, it’s now the other way around: I would say that there is no truth in the New York Times and no news in the Washington Post. Every day they lie about Russia, about Putin, about his alleged aggression, and so on. At the same time, objective facts are kept silent.
Here, for example, take the Crimea. NATO surrounded Russia with military bases, Ukraine was next in line. That is why the Crimea is so important for Russia, but in the USA they try not to advertise this information.
Europe follows the course of the United States, starting with the end of the Second World War. Yes, the United States overthrew fascism, but then the same feelings of appreciation, respect for the EU should be felt for Russia!
The USA is the richest country in the world, we have not only a lot of resources, but also tanks, airplanes and other things. In addition, it was in the United States that PR was created, we are experts in psychology, especially in the field of brainwashing.
At the same time, Russia is the biggest obstacle to US imperial ambitions, which is why they are so hostile to Russia, which is why the second cold war began. Russia, for example, can help the US defeat ISIS. But if Russia does this, do you think the United States will be happy? No, they will be stunned.
Only two countries in the world are opposed by the United States - this is Russia and China. But the United States will not give up its ambitions, they believe in so-called American exclusivity.
VIEW: Did not make their move stories, including the current situation in the Middle East, to reconsider this exclusivity, to draw any conclusions?
W. B.: The United States is tired of ground operations - this is the only lesson they learned after Iraq, Afghanistan. Unfortunately, I have to admit that in their pursuit of world domination for the United States there is no limit, nothing can stop them. Since the Second World War, the United States has overthrown governments in 50 countries around the world, attempted to kill 50 leaders of various countries, they have the most torture than any other nation in the world. The United States is a country not genetically predisposed to peace: remember the slaughter of Indians, slavery.
VIEW: The conflict in the east of Ukraine has been going on for more than a year and a half. Do the US still believe in the success of its strategy?
W. B.: The United States always believes: no matter what they do, they will succeed. America is a key participant in the events in Ukraine. The legitimate government there was overthrown by Washington, and this fact went unnoticed by the American public and the media. The current government is absolutely dependent. I don’t know how the situation will unfold in Ukraine in the future, but I really hope that the war between Russia and the West over Ukraine will not happen anyway.
VIEW: Earlier you stated that the causes of the death of the Malaysian "Boeing" are already known. Why then they have not yet been made public?
WB: The EU, the US wants to blame Russia or the militia of the South-East of Ukraine for the tragedy of the Malaysian "Boeing". But for this they lack one thing - evidence. The investigation has been going on for more than a year, and there is no published conclusion. This is because this conclusion contains conclusions to which the United States would not like to come.
VIEW: How does the US government relate to the fact that your point of view differs from the generally accepted one?
W. B.: I am not harassed. The best weapon from the point of view of the US authorities - ignoring. The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times do not even mention my name. I work only with alternative press.
Although once the media "noticed" me. When Osama bin Laden read my books and recorded an audio message in which he advised the American president to read them, my photo was in the same The Washington Post and other newspapers on the front page, CNN and other TV channels talked about me. So I had a whole week of fame. But the US government ignored this again.
By the way, I'm not the only one, my opinion is shared by many. About 30% of citizens do not go to the polls, because they do not believe in the possibility of changing anything. In the United States, elections depend on money, in particular, on those spent on the election campaign. Only the rich can participate in elections. And the rich love war, they earn it. This is another component of US foreign policy.
