Ukraine intends to resume control and management of airspace over the Black Sea, for which it plans to join the NATO regional air security program, reports RIA News statement of heads of the Ukrainian mission under the alliance Yegor Bozhka.
The agency recalls that in February 2014 Kiev authorities closed the airspace above the Crimean peninsula. From 27 in August, Kiev, in agreement with Eurocontrol and ICAO, introduced “special conditions for flight planning over the western part of the Black Sea and a limited flight planning mode over the eastern part, which, in his opinion, is in the Ukrainian area of responsibility”.
“In order to resume full-fledged ability to control airspace and security, in the near future, a pilot project will be launched on Ukraine’s accession to the so-called NATO regional air security program. Several expert visits have already taken place, an object has been identified that will be connected to this system. ”- told the god.
At the same time, he stressed that “within the framework of the program, Ukraine will not spend a penny of its own money on it: the allies will assume all costs”.
