Armored car "Triton": the next "promising" development of the Ukrainian defense industry
According to Ukrainian media reports, the Kiev-based enterprise Plant Leninskaya Kuznya has practically completed the development of the new Triton armored car. It is assumed that the new machine will be produced at the facilities of the enterprise for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard. Manufacturers are planning to demonstrate the first prototype before the end of 2015.
Not much is known about the new development, but now we can say that the Triton armored car will surpass all its counterparts that currently exist in their technical characteristics.
The manufacturers stated that, in terms of their characteristics and purpose, the new vehicle is an armored personnel carrier with a combat weight of about ten tons and a wheel formula 4х4. "Triton" is planned to equip with a remotely controlled module "Cyborg", the development of the same enterprise (Lenin Forge Plant), which consists of a large-caliber 12,7-mm machine gun (ammunition - 450 ammunition) and an 40-mm automatic grenade launcher UAG-40 (manufacturer - Design Bureau "Precision Mechanics").
The fire can be conducted simultaneously from a machine gun and from a grenade launcher. The combat module is capable of hitting targets with high accuracy at a distance of about 1,5-2 kilometers. The fire is carried out with the help of computer control of a machine gun from an armored cab.
Fighting vehicle "Triton" must be able to overcome water obstacles by swimming. However, the main advantage of the new unit of armored vehicles is its military purpose, not the patrol (most of the armored vehicles currently used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard are patrolmen). Those. This armored vehicle is designed to accompany the conduct of military operations, and not to conduct police operations.
In addition, on the basis of the Triton armored car, the developers are planning to deploy a new mobile complex of ground reconnaissance and electronic warfare “Jeb”, which includes the radar reconnaissance station of low-flying low-speed and ground targets of the millimeter-wave LC111 “Lys”, as well as a thermal imaging system, a two-channel television system Observations of night and day vision, laser range finder and radio monitoring system.
The armored car "Triton", according to the developers, can be adapted for various applications. So, in particular, on the basis of a combat vehicle, it is possible to create a car to combat tanks, radar station of the all-round view, reconnaissance vehicle, forward surveillance vehicle, as well as an armored command post, a medical armored car and an installation for launching ground-to-air missiles and anti-tank missiles.
It should be noted that the enterprise "Plant" Leninskaya smithy "for several years demonstrated its own development of armored vehicles. In particular, we are talking about a car built on the GAZ-66 chassis. The developers have repeatedly stated their intention to produce a car in small batches, but the military leadership refused to implement this project, citing the refusal by saying that the car was based on units that were already in use.
If we talk about the new development, then it should be noted that Triton also has certain disadvantages. Judging by the photos submitted by the developers, it can be concluded that according to its characteristics, the new armored car is very close to the armored Kozak armored vehicle, KrAZ Spartan, HMMWV, Russian GAZ Tigr, and in some moments even with Patrol B. And, perhaps, its only difference from all these machines is the ability to move through the water, which all the other armored vehicles lack.
At the same time, "Triton" declared as an armored personnel carrier. In this case, we can say that its direct analogue is the Dozor-B of Ukrainian development and production.
Thus, the new Ukrainian development raises many questions and disputes, but in order not to make hasty conclusions, it is necessary to wait for the experimental sample, and then evaluate it.
