Azerbaijani and Armenian media publish materials on shootouts on the border with Nagorno-Karabakh. In Nagorno-Karabakh, they say that the Azerbaijani military use mortars of caliber 82 and 120 mm, as well as automatic rifle weapon. The same publication reports on the “liquidation of 4-s of Azerbaijani soldiers by the army of the Artsakh Republic” (Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh - note “IN”).
At the same time, the Azerbaijani military claim ceasefire violations on the Armenian side.
Information Agency TASS quotes the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan:
22 August Armenian forces suddenly fired at positions of the armed forces of Azerbaijan, located in the direction of the Agdam and Khojavand regions with large-caliber weapons and mortars. We assessed the complexity of the situation and decided to strike back with mortars and artillery. As a result of our response, five Armenian soldiers were killed.
At the same time, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported that “the first Armenian soldiers who attacked first wounded three soldiers of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces”. Official Baku is responsible for the escalation of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh to Yerevan, Yerevan responds in the same way, accusing Baku of shelling and provocations.
