Two airborne units received honorary titles

President Vladimir Putin, by his decrees, conferred the honorary names of the 217 th paratrooper regiment and the 106 th airborne division, the newspaper said Look with reference to the Kremlin press service.

Two airborne units received honorary titles

The decree states:
“For mass heroism and courage, resilience and courage shown by regimental personnel in military operations to defend the Fatherland and state interests in armed conflicts, and considering his achievements in peacetime, I decide to assign the honorary title to 217 Guards Parachute of the Order of Kutuzov Regiment“ Ivanovsky "continue to call him: 217 Guards Parachute Ivanovo Order of the Kutuzov Regiment."

The second decree, having the same content, is dedicated to the assignment of the honorary title “Tula” to the 106 Airborne Division. The document ends with the words:
"Henceforth to call it: 106 Guards Airborne Tula Red Banner Order of the Kutuzov Division."

Both decrees entered into force.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that “more than 100 military units and formations of the army and currently have the honorary name of the guards fleet, not about a thousand, as stated in some publications».

And it is right. Only we do not seem to be at war. Or am I missing something? Maybe just a reward found a hero. There is such a popular sign - if the distribution of awards begins, then things are more than worthless.

      Not yours.
The "Semyonovsky" regiment is a witness to this. And others. In the WAR, they also gave names, and not during the period of difficult trials, but after overcoming them.

      PS
True, if you revive the traditions of the Russian Empire then give names by the name of the holy martyrs and patrons of the land where the unit is based.

What is your Name - "Leningrad Guards, Order of the Red Banner, Kutuzov and Suvorov Air Defense Brigade. Sounds? So Rust was not a suicide, but flew over the nounname. For there is a Name, but we will ask the foe's last name when we will collect the remains.
So, these Guys have something to be proud of.
The Name Guard is a terrible force, only beauty is stronger

Maybe deliberate? You do not exclude that all this was done intentionally?
The task was to undermine defense. But in order to create the appearance of optimizing military spending and optimizing the army structure.

It is very good if it is a return to old army traditions. Serving in "nominal" units and formations, where historical military traditions are observed at a high level and the history of these units is studied, helps to educate personnel in a high fighting spirit.

In the Imperial Army, the regiments were named after the cities where they were originally formed; "Sumy", "Moskovsky", "Arkhangelsky", "Akhtyrsky", "Grodno", the famous regiments of the "old guard" Preobrazhensky and "Semyonovsky" and many others ... This tradition was preserved, basically, until the fall of the Empire. Combat collective awards were various military attributes; pipes, ribbons, buttonholes, signs on hats and some others.
At the birth of the Red Army, the principle of honorary titles began to change. In the Civil War, they were given names both by the place of formation (Samara Division) and by their social composition (Proletarian Division, Division of the Red Cossacks).
In the Great Patriotic War, it became widespread to give names for battle places, liberated and defended settlements, for taken enemy cities, where units and formations covered their battle banners with unfading glory. I will not give examples. Most of us have the honor of serving in such units.
What method of awarding honorary titles will the modern army choose, a question?
One cannot in any way give history to oblivion, although quite recently, with the disbandment and reformation, many honorable names have sunk into oblivion. This question is very delicate and painful, requiring a deep approach. To return the names of the famous regiments of the Imperial Army, where then to put the widest layer of heroism and courage of the Great Patriotic War?

Where they were originally formed, and in this case, at the place of deployment. And as with honorary titles. 76 DShD is constantly called Pskov, at the place of deployment, although the honorary name is Chernihiv.
I do not like selective names. Someone has honorary titles, someone at the place of deployment. Everything must be one.

But what can we say about this 36 years after the disbandment? What was - was. Formed on its base DShBr, there was such an idea in the late 70s

Long? What would you say if the banner of the regiment division had 4-6 orders? And no one forces me to say that every day. This is the official name used on celebration days. And as regiment divisions were called by the method of deployment, they will call it that.
