The head of the press service of the Western Military District, Colonel Oleg Kochetkov, said that the 6-I Leningradskaya Red Banner Army of the Air Force and the air defense are being reconstructed in the Armed Forces of Russia. Oleg Kochetkov quotes RIA News:
The legendary 6-I Leningrad Red Banner Army of the Air Force and Air Defense (Air Force and Air Defense) was re-formed in western Russia.
According to the representative of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, 6-I army is being recreated in order to increase the effectiveness of command and control and organization of interspecific interaction of air force and air defense formations with ground forces of the Russian Navy in the west of the country.
For reference: The 6-I Leningrad Red Banner Army of the Air Force and Air Defense was created as part of the RF Armed Forces 1 June 1998, as a result of the unification of the 76 Red Banner Air Army and 6 Red Banned separate air defense army. The honorary name "Leningrad" formed army received in 2005 year. In the course of the reform, the 6-I Leningrad Red Banner Army of the Air Force and Air Defense was reorganized into the 1-th command of the Air Force and Air Defense with headquarters in Voronezh.
