After his visit to the United States, the commander of the Latvian armed forces, Raymond Graube, announced that American heavy weapons would begin to be deployed in Latvia this fall. Accommodation tanks and other American armored vehicles will be produced at the Latvian Adazi training ground.
According to the press secretary of the Ministry of Defense of Latvia Janis Sarts, "Adazhi" will receive the official status of the American military base. This is reported by the Latvian portal. Delphi.
The plans of the Pentagon include the transfer to Latvia of tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, as well as self-propelled artillery installations. The Adazhi range in Latvia was chosen as the location for the US military base due to the fact that it is the largest in the Baltic countries. According to the Latvian military leadership, "even more equipment could be accommodated here than the number that the United States planned for deployment." US Secretary of Defense Carter said the other day that Washington plans to "temporarily" place around 250 units of heavy equipment in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
