BrahMos project news

At the recent International Naval Salon, held in St. Petersburg, a large number of defense industry enterprises presented their products. The Russian-Indian company BrahMos Aerospace also had its own booth. This organization continues to engage in the creation of new missile weapons for ships, submarines and aircraft. In the course of the IMDS-2015 showroom, some details of the current work and plans of the Russian-Indian joint venture became known.

According to the manager of the co-director of BrahMos Aerospace Alexander Maksichev, both the joint development missiles and various missile systems based on them were presented at the organization’s stand. Thus, the exposition of the company showed the whole range of possibilities of the proposed technology. Currently, the BrahMos family of rockets and complexes are manufactured in series and supplied to the armed forces of India. Various complexes are transferred to the naval forces and land forces. For example, a new type of missile system is carried by more than a dozen surface ships, including three new 11356 ships built in Russia. In addition, India is building new 15A ships, which will also be armed with BrahMos missiles.

The management of BrahMos Aerospace appreciates the current progress of work and the prospects of existing projects. According to A. Maksichev, the prospects are visible for a decade ahead. Employees of the company are loaded with work on various projects and orders. Now experts are working on the implementation of orders of the Indian armed forces. In the future, the first export contracts signed with third countries are expected.

The managing co-director also spoke about some plans regarding the further development of the BrahMos family of missiles. One of the priority areas is the development of a new version of the rocket with reduced dimensions. Already exists aviation A variant of the rocket called BrahMos-A, however, it has some media limitations. Due to the length of about 8,4 m and a starting weight of about 2,5 tons, not all Indian Air Force planes can carry this weapon. For example, the Su-30MKI multipurpose fighter is capable of carrying only one such missile.

In the future, it is planned to develop a new modification of the rocket, which will be different in reduced dimensions. In this case, the aircraft ammunition will be increased. However, the creation of a new aircraft rocket is not a top priority. The main task of the current 2015 year is to continue the development and improvement of the already existing version of the aviation missile system.

According to reports, to date, two Su-30MKI aircraft have been converted to participate in the tests of the new missile complex. The production of experimental rockets has been completed and some tests have been carried out. Over the next few months, a first test launch is planned. After completion of the tests, which will take some time, it is planned to begin the necessary re-equipment of other aircraft from the Air Force combat units. The implementation of these plans will allow the full-scale operation of a new missile system to begin.

Also, the company BrahMos Aerospace revealed some details of other project options. Thus, the development of a version of the missile complex intended for installation on submarines was completed. The rocket itself and a set of tools to launch it are ready. Now it is necessary to determine which submarine will become the carrier of the new complex. A. Maksichev said that the new version of the BrahMos complex is already ready for installation on an underwater carrier.

However, the carrier of the new missile system has not yet been determined. The Indian side continues to study the existing proposals and the selection of the most suitable project. Earlier in the media reported the possibility of building new submarines Indian development or the probable purchase of Russian submarines of the project "Amur-1650". What exactly the Indian military will choose is not yet known. There is reason to believe that this time the Make in India (Promoted in India) approach promoted by the country's leadership will result in the choice of a project of its own design.

Despite the lack of certainty with the future carrier, the underwater version of the BrahMos missile system has already passed all the necessary checks. Test launches from a special pre-flooded stand began in 2011 year. All tests confirmed the reliability of the rocket and other means of the complex, which allows it to be installed on any suitable submarine.

At the end of June, the French press reported on some of the details of the collaboration between Paris and New Delhi. It was alleged that the leaders of the military departments of the two countries agreed in June on the transfer of certain technologies. According to sources of foreign publications, the French side agreed to transfer to India some technologies concerning guidance systems for guided missiles. Sagem was to provide the equipment and documentation.

During the showroom of IMDS-2015, the managing co-director of BrahMos Aerospace commented on these news and their significance for the joint Russian-Indian project. He noted that all systems currently used on the BrahMos missiles fully comply with the requirements. For this reason, the Russian-Indian enterprise does not need products from other suppliers, such as the French company Sagem.

Previously, there were other reports about the plans of BrahMos Aerospace and the Ministry of Defense of India. In mid-June, a solemn event was held in India to mark the anniversary of the founding of the joint venture. During the celebration, former Indian President Abdul Kalam praised the BrahMos project and its importance to the military. In addition, he expressed the hope that the tests of this family of aviation missiles will be held in the first half of next year, so that in the foreseeable future, the Air Force will receive a new weapon.

President of BrahMos Aerospace Sudhir Kumar Mishra also spoke about the timing of projects in his speech. He said that tests of the BrahMos-A missile can begin before the end of 2015. In addition, the company plans to come to grips with the development of the BrahMos-NG compact aviation missile. Over the next 5-10 years it is planned to create another project of the family - BrahMos-2. This time the troops will have to get a promising hypersonic rocket.

The latest statements by high-ranking officials and representatives of BrahMos Aerospace show that current projects have already achieved some success and continue to be of great interest to the main customer in the face of the armed forces of India. For this reason, the development of new missiles and the improvement of existing projects will continue. The Russian-Indian joint venture has big plans for the future.

And on the way is the BrahMos-2 hyper sonic rocket. Russia is also developing a rocket based on Onyx, and according to experts, it is better than BrahMos. One way or another, there is something to "please" the foe.

So Brahmos originally appeared from Onyx: "The rocket is based on the P-800 Onyx (more precisely, on its export version - Yakhont), developed by NPO Mashinostroeniya in the 1980s."

Bramos is built on the basis of onyx if my memory serves me, that is, as always, the export version, which naturally should be inferior to the original rocket.

It’s good that we make money in the arms market. Yes, and to arm a likely ally in a region where we have no interests is not even superfluous

Everything is fine, but the range of 300 km is very weak, but if the enemy shoots from far away, how can I get it?
