IMDS-2015: what the future Navy can boast of

7
424 companies took part in the VII International Naval Salon in St. Petersburg, many of which demonstrated new samples of their products, modern ship equipment and models of promising warships. During the days of the salon, FlotProm correspondents talked to all its participants at the exhibition stands and prepared a sample of the projects most interesting to the editorial board, which were first presented within the IMDS.

No people under water

In light of the increased attention of customers to robotic tools, among the presented product samples, the new development of MGTU named after M. Bauman - remote control uninhabited underwater vehicle (TNPA) for the study of the plating of the ship. Now, to search for damage caused by corrosion, cracks and deformation of the metal, it is no longer necessary to launch a diver into the water - an underwater robot will do everything. After launching the device with the help of 8 screws, swims to the body, turns around and attaches wheels to it. Next, the equipment installed on the TNPA with sensitive sensors, which produces a comprehensive diagnosis of damage, comes into play, while the device is moved with the help of wheels along the sides and bottom of the ship.

Unmanned a novelty presented and Samara State Technical University. An autonomous glider "Mako-2" was developed in its depths for oceanographic research, moving in the water column without using traditional propellers or water cannons. In fact, the new device is a "underwater plane", flying in the water column due to the forces of gravity and the forces of buoyancy. Such an unusual way of movement allows to achieve unprecedented indicators of quietness and autonomy of navigation, which can be several months. It turns out the perfect underwater reconnaissance, quietly collecting on the marine expanses data on the underwater situation due to hydroacoustic equipment, performing environmental and other studies.

The giant of the Russian marine industry - United Shipbuilding Corporation also did not stand aside from the construction of unmanned marine equipment. At IMDS, the corporation presented the autonomous unit "Yunona". Among the declared functionality of the device is the execution of rescue operations, as well as work on the Arctic shelf, which is one of the priorities of Russia in the 21st century.

What we shoot

If Drones belong to dual-use equipment and today are even more actively used by civilian customers, then the manufacturers of artillery systems at the exhibition focus on exactly one consumer - the Ministry of Defense and related structures of military-technical cooperation. And they achieve success in this direction. So, in 2015, a new 130-mm installation of the Arsenal design bureau was adopted, which was demonstrated at the exhibition as a mock-up. Unlike previously produced installations of this caliber, it has a lower mass, due to which it can be placed on ships of small displacement. Also, the changes affected the survivability of the barrel due to the use of a new cooling system.

At the neighboring booth of the Central Research Institute "Petrel" demonstrated naval combat modules caliber 7,62, 12,7 and 14,5 mm. In the maritime version at exhibitions they are presented for the first time, although earlier they could be seen installed on Raptor boats.

The joint Russian-Indian venture Bramos also does not stand still. If we compare their current exposition with a similar one at IMDS-2013, the model of the SU-30MKI fighter immediately catches the eye with aviation version of the rocket. And these, as FlotProm found out, are just the first steps to increase the number of Brahmos carriers. The company is working to reduce the overall dimensions of its products so that they can be placed on airplanes and small displacement ships.

Heart of the ship

Actively demonstrated their own development and engine-building enterprises. It is no secret that after the cessation of deliveries of MTU German ship diesel engines to Russia (which, however, did not prevent the company from exhibiting its products at the IMDS), a free niche was formed in the industry, which Russian manufacturers are striving to occupy. The Petersburg plant Zvezda solemnly demonstrated its new engine Pulsar, according to the manufacturer, which is distinguished by its economy, as well as high environmental and resource indicators. Despite statements by representatives of the "Stars" that the new diesel engine will be a full-fledged replacement for German counterparts, the commander-in-chief of the Navy, Viktor Chirkov, noted that the Pulsar was actually produced in Austria.

The Ural diesel, which was also criticized by Chirkov for the instability of cylinder covers to sea water, also brought a novelty to St. Petersburg. They became the engine of the new generation - DM-185, which can be equipped with surface ships, in particular corvettes, and submarines. As FlotProm found out during a visit to an enterprise’s booth, the advantages of a diesel engine created in Yekaterinburg include a substantial declared resource - 70000 hours to overhaul and the possibility of creating a gas version based on it. Interestingly, the manufacturer, unlike many of its competitors, intends to supply the engine not only to Russian shipbuilding enterprises, but also abroad.

If the Star and the Ural Diesel Engine Plant put on display natural samples of engines, the Kolomna Plant limited itself to a presentation of the layout of its new 20 cylinder diesel. Both the Navy and civilian customers have already shown interest in it. In particular, the variant of its use in the project of a floating nuclear power plant, the main body of which is being built at the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg, is being worked out. Although, as FlotProm found out during an interview with the chief designer of the Kolomna Plant, Valery Ryzhov, the direction of marine diesel engines is not the top priority for an enterprise specializing mainly in equipping railroad propulsion systems.

Sudomodelizm from leading PKB

Of course, the increased attention of visitors to the International Naval Salon and journalists was focused on promising projects of ships and vessels, presented in the form of models by Russian design bureaus. For those who were unable to attend the Army 2015 exhibition recently held near Moscow, the Krylov Scientific Center brought models developed at the Institute of an Aircraft Carrier and Destroyer to St. Petersburg. As FlotProm correspondents who visited the designers ’booth noted, it is planned to place early warning and control radars (AWACS) on board the aircraft carrier. At the only aircraft carrier of the Navy Admiral fleet Soviet Union Kuznetsov "to place such aircraft due to the characteristics of the deck and the heavy weight of the aircraft themselves was impossible.

The version of the destroyer "Leader", exhibited by Krylovets on the IMMS, is an export one. From the project that was previously demonstrated by the Northern PKB, which is developing the concept of a destroyer for the Russian fleet, the project generated by the specialists of the Krylovsky State Research Center differs significantly. For example, a version with a gas turbine power plant is proposed for export, the supplier of which, after a break in relations between the Russian military-industrial complex and the Ukrainian enterprise Zorya-Mashproekt, is still unknown. The Russian fleet, with a high probability, will receive a ship with a nuclear power plant. The new destroyer, as told at the stand of the institute, has already aroused the interest of foreign customers.

If about the projects described above, it is probably known to every specialist interested in the Navy, a no less significant project of the Alekseev Central Design Bureau of the so-called high-speed base platform turned out to be unfairly lit by the press. And by the way, it is this project that most closely follows the trends in military shipbuilding that have taken shape in the world. Its essence lies in the fact that the designers offer the construction of a basic platform, that is, a vessel that can be equipped with any equipment or weapons to perform a particular task. You no longer need to build dozens of projects of various assignments, in the names of which alone an inexperienced person can easily get confused. In the same building, you can build a patrol ship, a rescue ship, and a supply vehicle. The advantages of versatility are complemented by high speed - up to 50 nodes, which is achieved through the use of a case with an air cavity on the bottom.

Another interesting design solution was presented by Zelenodolsk PKB. "Rusich-1" - a small frigate with outrigger-energy modules that implements a trimaran hull contour scheme. The advantages of this solution are called high seaworthiness and stability, as well as the possibility of installing a sufficiently high superstructure and a mast that would worsen the characteristics of a single-hull ship. It is planned to equip Rusich with two diesel-gas turbine power plants located in outriggers. A characteristic feature of the ship is the location of the screws: in this project they are pulling, not pushing, as in most ships under construction. However, the designers do not explain whether their trimaran can get to the base under its own power in case of failure of one of the power plants, or rather whether the ship’s steering can compensate for the rotation that will inevitably occur when using only one screw for movement.

A more traditional Zelenodoltsev project - the river artillery boat of the 12130МE project - is a modernization of an already existing ship that is on duty as part of the Amur division of border ships. The stern gun disappeared from the old project, but an unmanned aerial vehicle and a speedboat appeared, located just in the stern of the boat. The engine cooling system was also reworked. It was replaced by a three-circuit to ensure more stable operation in turbid river water.

In the understanding of the general public, in the field of view of which the Mistrali had been looming for several years, the helicopter carrier is a huge sea-going ship with a fleet of about a dozen helicopters and a hangar for landing craft. Petersburg shipbuilding firm "Almaz" decided to go contrary to public opinion and prove that a small ship could be a helicopter carrier. At IMDS, the company presented a mock-up of a new multi-purpose boat carrying two helicopters on board, an 200 landing force man or military equipment. At the same time, in contrast to the slow-moving "Mistral", due to the underwater wings the "Kalan" develops speed to 50 nodes.

In the water area

If the presented models of promising ships are the future of the fleet, then its present has been demonstrated in the IMMS water area. In the 2015, the battle ships to St. Petersburg came much less than expected. There were no promised modern frigates of the 22350 and 11356 projects, and the ships of foreign naval forces did not make the visit even more enjoyable. Nevertheless, visitors to the exhibition had something to look at. According to the editorial staff of FlotProm, the minesweeper with the hull from composite materials of the 12700 project "Alexander Obukhov" represents the greatest interest among the ships that came to the exhibition. Representatives of the Sredne-Nevsky Shipbuilding Plant, where the ship was built, said that the minesweeper would soon start factory running trials and in 2015 it would be transferred to the Navy. Such ships are planning to build a large series, so it is extremely interesting to see what the mine-sweeping forces of Russia of the future will look like.

An equally important exhibit is the modular boat of the 23370 "QMS-2098" project, the advantage of which is unprecedented versatility. Depending on the need to perform a task, the boat can be equipped with the appropriate equipment in container design. Using the boat platform, it is possible to solve the problems of diving descents, search and survey, preparation for ship raising, survey sites for the presence of underwater objects. The ship itself, as already mentioned, implements the principle of the modular design of the hull, which allows you to complete its assembly directly in the home region and eliminates problems with transportation.

For the first time the landing craft “Denis Davydov” of the project “Dugong” is presented to the general public. Recall that such boats, intended for the transportation of armored vehicles and personnel, were considered as an option for placing on board Mistral-type helicopter carriers, which are still idle at the French shipyard. The names of the "Dugongs" by the decision of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy are given in honor of the officers of the Guards Marine Crew, who distinguished themselves during the World War 1812. By the way, as part of the IMDS, Denis Davydov was accepted into the Russian Navy.

Solemnly raised the flag of St. Andrew in the presence of participants in the cabin and on the third submarine of the 636.3 project "Old Oskol". Three more such ships are being built at the Admiralty Shipyards in St. Petersburg. The entire series is designed to enhance the combat readiness of the Black Sea Fleet, which was given the opportunity to develop after the integration of the Crimea Peninsula into the Russian Federation. 636 submarines of the project differ from their predecessors in modern torpedo armament, cruise missiles with a range of up to one and a half thousand kilometers, as well as extremely high levels of secrecy.

International partnership

As the commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, Viktor Chirkov, noted, many foreign delegations came to the IMDS in 2015, who were keenly interested in the exhibit and held talks with representatives of Russian defense enterprises. So, despite the political situation, Russia has not lost its buyers in the field of military-technical cooperation. But with the "sellers" everything was much worse. Foreign companies that presented their products at the salon could be counted on fingers. Representatives of many of them, as FlotProm found out, were strictly forbidden to communicate with Russian journalists. Employees of the German company MTU, who previously put Russian shipbuilders in a rather awkward position, declined to comment on the products presented, for example, due to the cessation of shipboard shipments to Russia. The purpose of their visit to the IMDS remained a mystery: whether the MTU is trying to stay on the Russian market in the field of civil shipbuilding, or is planning to resume deliveries of diesel engines for the Navy.

The International Naval Salon was held in St. Petersburg for the seventh time. All the time it was held, FlotProm closely followed the course of the exhibition, events taking place within it, published statements by officials and covered new products of the enterprises of the marine military industrial complex. For the convenience of readers all news Salon were collected in a single category "IMMS", which posted more than 100 news. For those who want to briefly get acquainted with the exhibition, which completed its work on Sunday, 5 July, the portal presents video and photo reports.

Petersburg plant "Zvezda" solemnly demonstrated its new engine "Pulsar"

From Austrian components! Representatives of the Russian Navy have already spoken about this, and about other power plants of our manufacturers, of which there are two more besides "Zvezda". This is a problem that will have to be solved in a short time.

it is planned to deploy early warning and control aircraft (AWACS) on board the aircraft carrier. It was impossible to place such aircraft on the only aircraft-carrying cruiser of the Navy "Admiral of the Soviet Union Fleet Kuznetsov" at the moment, due to the peculiarities of the deck and the large weight of the aircraft themselves.

It's time to have your own aircraft carriers. And then the mattress greets the farther the farther.

All projects and projects. But in reality, the production of some projects was stopped due to the engines. They abandoned others, such as outdated. Vicious circle. Because the new one is under construction for 10 years and automatically becomes obsolete.
SERIES NEEDED. Completely well-designed from the anchor to the power plant. But there is no series. Here are the mockups and indulge.

Can someone tell us about the Penza diesel engine, or have they abandoned the ship engines? With the Russian diesel engine, everything is clear, under the guise of 20 people "experts" who pour up the engine resource with papers and on the promising site they collect "tricks", the Bryansk ones with the ship engines planned to tie up even before perestroika , now only wagons.
