The booster rocket Energy-M and its last dwelling

38
At the end of the 70-s of the last century, after the closure of the Soviet lunar program and the work on the H1 super-heavy rocket, the Soviet Union began developing another super-heavy rocket called “Energy”. It flew for the first time in 1987, and in 1988, it launched the reusable Buran spacecraft into Earth orbit. Using four lateral acceleration units, this rocket could put up to 100 tons of cargo into orbit.

By the end of 80-s, on its basis a whole family of space rockets of various power was designed, including the launch vehicles Energia-M, Energia-2 and Vulkan. But only Energia-M was beyond the scope of the drawings.

The booster rocket Energy-M and its last dwelling

1. As a start-up complex, Energia-M used the existing complex CCS providing the launch of the Energia launch vehicle. To verify the achievement of this compatibility (and many other tests), a life-size, full-size dimensional, technological, rocket launcher was built and installed in a purpose-built building with the central unit installed. 25 December 1991 was installed on the UKSS launching table, and two days later the model was returned to the Dynamic Test Stand building.

Since then, nearly a quarter of a century has passed, and the layout still rests inside. The Dynamic Test Stand, with its 170-meter height, is the tallest building at Baikonur. Rising a white tower above the desert, it makes a lasting impression.

2. The clock stopped, the windows in the building lost their glass, inside there is a complete rout and desolation. However, the overall technological layout has hardly changed over the years.

4.

5. Energy-M was created as a replacement for the Proton launch vehicle tested, but “dirty” by the fuel used, while surpassing it by one and a half times the mass of the payload put into orbit.

6. The design value reached 35 tons into near-Earth orbit and 6,5 tons into geostationary orbit. 12 tons of cargo could be sent to the orbit of the moon.

7.

8.

9. The central unit of the launch vehicle "Energy-M" consists of fuel tanks and is divided into four compartments - transient, inter-tank, tail and propulsion. The uppermost of them is transitional - a head fairing is attached to it.

10. The inter-tank compartment houses control and telemetry equipment. The height of the central unit together with the fairing is 50,5 meters, with a diameter of 7,7.

11.

12.

13. The engine uses one RD-0120 operating on liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen with a 190 ton-force in vacuum and 147,6 ton-force in the atmosphere. The engine is installed on the layout (possibly a layout) with the number N5251231155.

16.

17. The booster is installed on the starting-docking unit "I". This unit serves as the lower power base plate, to which the blocks of the first stage are attached. In this way, the missile is transported on the transport and installation unit, and installed in a vertical position at the start.

18. The unit also performs the function of a protective device that protects the launch vehicle from the effects of the return flow of the operating rocket propulsion systems when launching the carrier. Hydrogen, oxygen, kerosene, helium, gaseous nitrogen, freon, oil for steering gears and compressed air are fed through the starting and docking block.

21. A few views on the design of the stand - platforms and cranes.

22.

23.

24. From the roof of the stand offers a wonderful view of the desert and the neighboring launch complexes. The closest of them is the complex from which the “Buran” took off. And before that it was used in the Soviet lunar program. Behind it you can see the masts of the UKSS - the Universal Space Stand Start, from which Energia-M was to fly.

25. On the other hand, you can see the building of the installation and testing complex. A pair of transport and installation units — special railway platforms for the transportation of the Energia-Buran and Energiya-M bundles — froze in front of its entrance.

26.

27. Panoramic view of the MZK with reusable orbital ships stored inside.

28. And in the middle of 90, the developer of Energia-M RSC Energia lost the state competition for the creation of a new heavy launch vehicle, giving preference to the GKNPTs them. MV Khrunicheva with its Angara launch vehicle. But it is already completely different. story.

Now everything is quietly rusting to itself. And when they move to "Vostochny" they will sell them at the price of scrap metal to Kazakhstan.

It is necessary to look more at Uncle Sem, to dream about jeans and listen to more of the Gorbachev’s Jews.
And rightly so. If for a quarter of a century they didn’t grow wiser, now we won’t grow wiser never, now, for example, the greatest happiness for Russians is to supply the Black Sea with a half-free price for at least 30 years.

And what are the dimensions of buildings, pads and cars.
They are stored. Storage for what is provided. Surely they will be removed from storage and will take on Energy.

    wonderful desert view
Steppe, not a desert. In the spring there are beauties, but only two weeks, then everything burns out, the rest of the year everything is habitually monotonous.
P.S. And on emotions - I agree with

Nothing wrong. Now everything is on the mend, time will pass and "Energy", or its improved model, will fly. The "Air start" will be carried out in the same way on an airplane of the "Mriya" type. We will do all this if our "partners" from the West do not interfere or crawl with arms.

There is no more "blizzard", there is only a full-size model. (in my opinion at "VDNKh") and about the fate of the ship there is a film "Blizzard constellation wolf" Volkov, the crew commander who was supposed to pilot the car in the first flight, but as you know the flight was automatic

No one noticed that Energy lost the contest to the Khrunichev center in the 90s, no one remembers how they sawed the budget in those years? If the RKK Energia rocket carrier had only to be localized in Russia, then would the Angara be rebuilt, as a result, we had lost at least ten years, built the Angara, and now we think that we will launch it on an extremely heavy space? It's a shame that we do not value the heritage of a great country. (((After all, they could quietly develop the best that was not breaking, but change only that that did not work. As a result, they broke everything, and now we are restoring and remembering the achievements. Few people remember MAKS Lozino-Lozinsky’s project, but the project has overtaken its time by a lot. The old generation of geniuses is leaving, but the new one is not visible. They crushed goals, lost ambitions, everything slipped into orbit of foreign satellites.
Barely built GLONAS, and even then, until the amers were caught in accuracy in the middle and southern latitudes. It's a shame. (((
