The consortium RTI has begun construction of the landing ship dock for the Italian Navy

One of the world's largest shipbuilding groups, Fincantieri and Finmeccanica, the leading Italian high-tech manufacturer, have begun building an amphibious landing craft (LHD) for the Italian Navy, reports "Military parity".

The consortium RTI has begun construction of the landing ship dock for the Italian Navy

The cost of the signed contract exceeded 1.1 billion euros, 853 million of which accounted for Fincantieri, and 273 million - for Finmeccanica. It is planned that the construction of the ship will be completed by 2022 year.

The agreement with the consortium RTI - Raggruppamento Temporaneo di Impresa - which consists of Finmeccanica, Fincantieri and a subsidiary of Selex ES, was concluded with the General Department of Naval Armaments (NAVARM) of the Italian Defense Ministry’s Secretary General.

Fincantieri and Finmeccanica joined the Consortium in October last year, signing an agreement on cooperation in the field of shipbuilding.

It is worth noting that the Italian authorities allocate 5.4 billion euros to finance the Navy renewal program, which will be used to build an amphibious dock ship, six patrol ships with an option for four additional units, as well as a supply ship.

a helicopter is based on any small ship with a helipad, and when it is sunk, they will go to the bottom of just one or two.

To service the helicopter in bad weather, a movable hangar is easily equipped ...

Seriously, at the end of the 70s, on the same ship project, venerable experts from the 1st Institute of the Navy, with a difference of a couple of months, issued two directly opposite conclusions (yes, who is talking about what, and I am about my beloved "Halzan") ... smile

    Nobody needs these Mistral ...

A strange conclusion from an article about the construction of a new dock ship. As we see our udk build all who can afford it. The French would have sold the Mistral, but the ships that they built were not entirely Mistral. THESE SHIPS CREATED UNDER OUR REQUIREMENTS AND STANDARDS. So when you buy them another country will have to spend a lot of money and time in turning them into classic Mistral. We will also have to build our fishing rods, but unlike the Frankish ships, which would already be part of the fleet, our fishing rods will not be soon and much more expensive than the mistals. For 2 Mistrals, we had to pay 1,2 billion, we think I’ll grow to 2 billion. And this is not a snot about corruption and theft, but real problems. Not the readiness of the project, shipyards, personnel, etc. In addition, we did not build such ships before, which means the project will have a bunch of flaws and jambs that will be fixed in subsequent changes. An example is the first “Guardian” corvette, which is being repaired for the third time.

Yeah ... 5 hours of flight and 2 months of approval of the flight route. And then at the last moment one of the countries closes its airspace - and that’s it.

In addition, the seafarers arrive at their destination, having behind them a ready-made floating rear with a helicopter base. And with the landing it is still necessary to land and deploy.
By the way, how much IL-76 will be required to transport the same number of people, equipment and supplies that the DVKD takes? wink

          1. Yes, I do not mind pulling the rear on ships (military, transport ....). And what the hell to drag?
          2. What I have not heard about the coordination for the Tu-160 never !?
          3. 128 paratroopers on board (roughly 5 sides = 500 people)
          4. real cruising speed IL-76 -800 km / h (3000/800 = 4 hours)
          5. If the enemy detects a landing operation, in 5 days he can tighten reserves, but in 4 hours they will lie.

So that they can then be a month away from a potential enemy, constantly threatening their presence. Nowadays, most naval battles look like this:

Because the threat of an attack by the Marines is not in a few hours, but literally now, any minute - this is part of the projection of force.

You can also catch up with fear .... in words. For this there is no need to substitute 500 paratroopers for a possible preemptive strike ...... from the same "club-s". With modern technology, put a glider with 100 troops on the "Union-2" result .... the same several tens of minutes, but the radius of application of "force" is much wider, which means that the calculation of the response is much more difficult.

Well, air defense can act as an answer for aviation, and you can guess where the landing will be based on knowledge of the situation, so this is also not a panacea. In general, airborne landing is usually used when the conflict has already entered the hot phase, while the likelihood of a sea landing does not always mean that it will certainly be implemented.

My question is only one, helicopter carriers, ships, docks. Tell me what are the promising landing operations in the plans of the Russian Navy? Where are we going to land such a large landing? Do we have many colonies? Do we take part in UN missions on islands so often? Just wondering. Or do we all sincerely believe that we will be able to capture Japan, the USA, and Great Britain with the help of 2-3 helicopter carriers? In my opinion, we simply do not have tasks that we would carry out with these types of ships. Well, maybe only the Kuril Islands and the Bering Strait and all.
