Vault 404: Ukraine in anticipation of a technogenic apocalypse
SSES of Ukraine is in a systemic crisis. What threatens the paralysis of emergency services? What objects should be taken under special control?
June 29 in the exclusion zone of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant again began a major fire, the fire engulfed an area of about 130 ha. Despite the fact that after some time the State Emergency Service announced the localization of the fire, it becomes obvious that modern Ukraine is not able to adequately respond to such challenges. In this case, we are talking primarily about the fact that preventive measures were not taken.
The previous fire in the exclusion zone took place as recently as two months ago, and according to the logic of things, the SSES management should have strengthened control over the danger zone. However, the fact remains that Chernobyl is back on fire.
В stories Post-Soviet Ukraine has not yet been the case when the exclusion zone burned twice a year. Local authorities after extinguishing the fire always carried out the necessary preventive measures. Today, no one gives a guarantee that this fire is the last. Ukrainians will have to live two more summer months and traditionally hot Ukrainian September under the wise leadership of the “Poroshenko team”.
What will happen next, time will tell. I want to remind you that in addition to the Chernobyl NPP there are other large energy facilities in the country, which, due to the systematic connivance and negligence of the Ukrainian authorities, pose a great danger to people.
Dneproges
The man-made disaster at this facility will be comparable in scale to the 1986 tragedy of the year. The fact is that on the territory of Zaporozhye region there is a vast industrial complex, which includes metallurgical, chemical and engineering production.
A significant number of enterprises will simply wash away, and toxic substances will poison everything around for hundreds of kilometers. The nuclear power plant in Energodar will be in jeopardy, the explosion of which will turn the fantasies of the authors of “Fallout” and “Mad Max” into reality, and it is very doubtful that the valiant SSES of Ukraine will be able to do anything.
The accident at the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power station shows that only one untested and not replaced bearing in time can cause a tragedy. In the case of Ukraine, such a bearing should be no less than 130 ha in diameter so that local “specialists” can notice it.
Nuclear power plants
In addition to the Zaporozhye NPP, three more power plants of the same type continue to operate in Ukraine: the South-Ukrainian, Rivne and Khmelnitsky. When these NPPs were created, it was calculated that the power units would be in operation no more than 30 years.
KNPP is the safest of all these stations, since, in contrast to the remaining two, it has only one power unit with overdue operation.
The South-Ukrainian NPP has overdue operation of two of the three power units, in particular one - for more than two years.
At the Rovno nuclear power plant the situation is close to critical. Power units Exactly-1 and Exactly-2 should have been withdrawn in 2010 and in 2011, respectively. It turns out that they have been used in excess of the norm for more than five years, which makes 1 / 6 a resource of a new (sic!) Power unit.
Someone will say that some of the units, including at the Rivne NPP, have been extended operational life. I agree, such messages have occurred, however, the implementation of modernization measures raises serious doubts.
The fact is that after the upgrade, some of the units were subjected to an emergency stop. Thus, at the beginning of 2014, power unit No. 3 of the Rovno NPP held 13 planned activities to extend its life. Work continued throughout the year. However, in March, the 2015 "upgraded" power unit was turned off to prevent an emergency.
By the way, only the completion (sic!) Of the integrated summary program for improving the safety of power units of the RNPP is estimated at 4 billion hryvnia or nearly 180 million dollars. I wonder if somehow the shutdown of the “repaired” power unit is connected with the highest level of corruption in Europe, which Ukraine proudly demonstrates?
Anyway, the second Chernobyl performed by RAES is only a matter of time. However, unlike the events of 1986, the European countries will take the brunt of the brunt.
I will sum up
In addition to the above facilities, there are about 1500 hazardous chemical enterprises in Ukraine that pose a threat to 17 millions of people; more than 150 warehouses that store 1,5 million tons of ammunition to be disposed of; order 30 million tons of toxic red mud at the Nikolaev Alumina Refinery and much more.
Is there a threat of man-made disaster in Ukraine? Draw your own conclusions. But personally, a fire at the oil depot and almost radioactive burial grounds at Chernobyl suggest a sad reflection.
