US military experts expressed dissatisfaction with Senator McCain's statement about the need to "urgently refuse to purchase Russian rocket engines"
27
Leading US military experts strongly criticized statements by Senator John McCain that Washington should in any case refuse to buy Russian rocket engines, even after the accident with the Falcon 9 rocket and the Dragon space cargo ship. Recall that McCain generally linked the crash of the American launch vehicle 28 June with the use of Russian rocket engines of the American space industry.
I will not allow Putin and his buddies to earn 300 million dollars under our defense spending program - the money of American taxpayers at a time when Russian troops are still occupying Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the US Department of Defense said that the unsuccessful launch of the Falcon 9 "may have a very negative impact on the development of the American space program." And US National Intelligence Director James Klepper was even more categorical, sending a letter to the Senate stating that if Washington refuses to purchase Russian engines now, "The Pentagon may face a multi-year loss of access to space."
