Titanium "Golden Fish" utilized in Severodvinsk

48
The Zvezdochka Ship Repair Center (Severodvinsk) disposed of the most high-speed nuclear submarine K-222, nicknamed “Golden Fish”, the newspaper reports Look with reference to the press service of the enterprise.

“The three-compartment block of the legendary K-222 submarine (Anchar project) remaining from the nuclear-powered ship cut-off will be towed by sea to Sayda Bay on the Kola Peninsula, where the reactor compartment will be brought to shore and transferred to a long-term storage point,” the release said

The newspaper reminds, earlier "Zvezdochka" "won the tender and signed a contract with Rosatom for the disposal of K-222 - the first domestic submarine with a hull made of titanium alloys." Recycling began in 2010.

The most difficult part of the project was the discharge of spent nuclear fuel. "The design features of the K-222 reactors did not allow the equipment used on the submarines of other projects to be used to extract fuel assemblies, in fact, they had to design and make new ones," the press service noted.

SNF unloading began in May of 2013. “Over 700 of radioactive rods were required to be moved from submarine reactors to special transport containers,” the shipyard specified. “Last December, Zvezdochka left the first special echelon carrying the spent nuclear fuel to the Ural plant Mayak for storage and reprocessing.”

Help newspaper: “K-222 (until 1978 - K-162) was laid down at the Sevmash shipyard in December 1963, in 1970 it was included in the Northern fleet. Due to the long and expensive construction, unique characteristics received the nickname "Goldfish". In 1989, the nuclear submarine was expelled from the Navy. The submarine speed record set in 1970 under water - 44,7 knots (about 83 km / h) - is still not broken. ”

Unfortunately, it is not known what acoustic characteristics she had in the range of mini-max stroke. This is today the main condition for the survival of submarines in a conflict situation. so maybe it’s a pity for the boat, but everything has its time.

Titanium is not the cheapest metal (to put it mildly). And working with him is difficult. Heavy light metal, in a word (or vice versa).
So it turns out - the fish is really golden!

No one will ever put metal on needles. These boats, which are cut up, have a new life ahead! In new ships. The disassembled first 971 cases went to the new 885s. And a bunch of equipment after restoration replenished spare parts. And much more. Thanks to some honest mechanics, a lot of spare parts were saved. This saves. Just liberals and traitors should be less read. They plundered of course. But such a mass did not actually exist. There will be new ships.

Technologies can be preserved, only now titanium is partly in private hands, partly abroad, in Ukraine and Kazakhstan, and the technological chains are destroyed.
Selling raw materials has become an open economic policy of the Russian Federation, and its processing "business" is not interested, the "house" in the Alps is interesting.
I believe that a project like the "Golden Fish" is not feasible for the current Russian Federation, either technologically or economically.

This boat served as a fighter. In combat duty mode, she walked at 10-12 knots without betraying herself. After finding the target, it flew towards her at a distance of destruction, did her job and flew away, after which she again became invisible. So, the wake stream appeared for a short time, only for the period of reaching the target. For the rest of the time, no one saw or heard her. Moreover, her dimensions were small. Modern whoppers at 30 knots follow much more.
But the boats are so awesome as needed! To myself. Let people take care of themselves.

There may be problems with the reactor. He is very old. The reactor cannot be removed without cutting the boat. To dismantle it from the boat, a three-compartment unit is cut out. Then, to create a museum, the building will have to be reassembled. Given that it is not quite ordinary, it will be necessary to recreate production facilities similar to those on which the hull was produced. Cavitation at high speeds made itself felt, but no "hatches" could and could not break off.
