If on the eve of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that 3 billion dollars, received by Ukraine in 2013, is not a loan from Russia, but a “bribe to Yanukovych”, today the Minister of Finance of Ukraine expressed a different opinion on the loan. Ms. Yaresko said that Ukraine recognizes sovereign debt to Russia. Natalia Yaresko, speaking at the Swedish-Ukrainian economic forum quotes
RIA News:
We recognize this debt of three billion, like any other European bond.
At the same time, Yaresko added that “we are doing everything that we can” to restructure the Ukrainian debt.
Yaresko (style saved):
I do not hide the restructuring of this debt. I do everything I can. And I want us to consider this bond, like any other European. The government is very clear ... we have enough programs, and we need to achieve the goal of debt restructuring.
We consider Eurobonds exchanged for Russian loans as all other Eurobonds that we plan to restructure. There are no preferences, we treat all the papers equally.
The head of the Ukrainian Finance Ministry said that she was working on a program to preserve the government debt bar at about 71% while simultaneously improving the balance of payments of Ukraine. Recall that the Ukrainian economic experts themselves quite recently predicted an increase in the level of debt by the end of this year to a level in 98% of GDP. Yaresko noted that the fall of the Ukrainian economy in 2015 will be about 9%.
Today Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev spoke on yesterday’s Poroshenko’s statement on Facebook:
If 3 billion sovereign loan received by Ukraine from Russia, in the opinion of Poroshenko, is a bribe, then the billions negotiated by the leaders of Ukraine with the IMF are the organization of large-scale theft.
