Military Robots get rid of foreign elements

The development of unmanned aerial vehicles in Russia at one time spent about five billion rubles, but we were forced to buy UAVs abroad. When will we have modern robotic complexes (RTC) of different profiles, not inferior to the best world models?

We found ourselves in the role of pursuing only because we seriously began to create military robotic complexes relatively recently. Many samples even now exist only in experimental specimens, and serial deliveries to the Russian Armed Forces are very rare.

They are so non-standard ...

For a long time in Russia there was not even uniform standards for the development of the RTK. Many of those that were created by the defense industry on their own initiative still have foreign components, which, with Western sanctions, calls into question the very meaning of the production of import-infected systems.

“A fire provocateur can fight independently, but the main thing is to reveal the masked enemy firing points and, together with a group of special forces, effectively suppress them”
By and large, it is a permanent crisis of the high-tech sector of our military-industrial complex, which does not produce or produces in a limited number small-sized, noise-free navigation systems with high autonomy, capable of solving problems in the suppression of satellite communication channels, sensors of various physical principles -electronic means, specialized systems for ground processing, storage and display of data, and much more, without which You can create modern military equipment.

What prevents? Problems - both organizational and legal, and scientific and technical nature, discrepancies in the activities of various ministries and departments, the low level of substantiation of requirements for promising RTK, the lack of unification of the RTK for military purposes, the limitations of the modern test base, the lack of qualified specialists.

Almost all the robotic complexes that have recently been created by the domestic industry, were developed without taking into account the specific needs of the military. And yet there are samples of particular interest. For their production, the Ministry of Defense organized the preparation of a concept for the use of military-purpose RTKs, as well as a comprehensive targeted program for the development of advanced military robotics up to 2025, with a forecast up to 2030. Together with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Rosstandart, the development of military GOST standards, which establish uniform requirements for defense and special robotics, continues.

In the structure of GUNID Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in 2013, the Main Research and Testing Center of Robotics was established. He solves the tasks of supporting the development of military-purpose RTKs. Established interaction with MSTU. Bauman, MAI, interdepartmental working group of the Military-Industrial Commission. By order of the Ministry of Defense, a set of research projects was carried out to improve the basic technologies of military robotics and create experimental samples of remotely and autonomously controlled ground-based RTK HV of various classes: for remote mine clearance, reconnaissance and surveillance, evacuation of the wounded and first aid Since 2013, the development of a multifunctional RTK has begun on the basis of a small and medium chassis for combat operations of the Ground Forces and Airborne Forces.

Currently, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are armed with various ranges, various target loads for monitoring the underlying surface, conducting airborne (radio electronic) reconnaissance, detecting enemy targets, adjusting artillery firing and targeting fire weapons; ground-based RTK for radiation and chemical reconnaissance, as well as the transportation of radio-emitting objects.

Robotman Robot

After the imposition of sanctions, the situation deteriorated sharply, it became more difficult to provide the Russian Armed Forces with modern robotics. What import substitution can we boast of today?

Some samples of the RTK, perhaps, were last shown in September of 2014 in Krasnoarmeysk near Moscow, where the military-industrial conference was held. Robotic complex "Platform-M" (Technological Research Institute "Progress", Izhevsk) was, perhaps, the first and so far the only one accepted for the supply of special units of the Russian army. It complies with the technical requirements set by the Defense Ministry of the Russian Federation and is intended for reconnaissance and combat activities under conditions of fire resistance. The first ToR for this RTK is formulated in 2008, and deliveries are begun in 2013. Several prototypes were developed. At first, the wheelbase seemed to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation insufficiently effective, therefore the RTK was transferred to a tracked course. The first "Platform-M" was armed with a single machine gun. Now added four grenade launchers with the possibility of shooting both single and volley. Enhanced protection against bullets and shrapnel; optical and radio channels created.

Soldiers to order

“This car on the battlefield is a fire provocateur. It can conduct military operations independently, but most importantly, it reveals the enemy’s gun emplacements and, when combined with a special forces group, can effectively suppress them, ”told Andrei Zorin, Director General of the Research Technological Institute of Technology, to the VPK columnist. - It is in the brigade battle formations and is controlled by one operator (sergeant or contract soldier). But she needs a means of transportation, since the weight is more than 680 kilograms. Deliveries for the Russian Defense Ministry established.

According to Zorin, today the institute is actively working on the creation of RTCs that operate in different environments simultaneously. They are a system that includes a UAV, a ground robot, control equipment, and sensor systems. "In the small class drones we no longer lag behind Israel, and even surpass it,” Zorin assured optimistically. – It’s just that for many years we didn’t pay attention to the RTC, we didn’t give technical specifications, we didn’t allocate funding. More or less normal work began only in the 2000s.”

Another robot designed for demining, Uran-6, is partially exploited in the Defense Ministry of the Russian Federation. Having existed only a few copies, he nevertheless had already visited the hot spots in the North Caucasus, where he showed himself from a good side.

Of interest is the remote-controlled combat module, which has an 30-mm automatic cannon, an 7,62-mm machine gun and is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to four kilometers. The transmission of service and video information goes through CAN channels 2.0, RS485, Ethernet, HD-DSI. Replenishment of ammunition is carried out from inside the machine itself. A remote control, from the workstation. The operator has a ballistic computer and a control panel. But the Achilles heel of the majority of domestic RTK is still the same - imported components.

Flies "Pear"

The decision to develop a new drone drone was taken after visiting Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu of the international aerospace show Paris AirShow-2013. A representative of the Israeli firm IAI then proudly demonstrated at Le Bourget the Xero multi-purpose unmanned aerial vehicle, which travels long distances and can be used as a shock. Russia, alas, does not yet have such devices, and it seems that IAI was ready to sell them to us. But the permission for the supply must be pierced through the Israeli Ministry of Defense, and only for Russia. This statement, apparently, slightly hurt the head of our military department.

“As long as you get permission, we will make such a device ourselves,” Shoigu said sharply. But are we able to "catch up and overtake"? Two years have passed.

A small DA-42 aircraft was presented at the stand with Diamond products. Representatives of the company told Sergei Shoigu that their products are the only ones in their class that fly on kerosene. It is two times more profitable than gasoline. The planes are made with a wide use of composites and plastics, they are very economical, their exhaust system works in such a way that the DA-42 is practically silent. It is difficult to detect it using infrared radiation. No wonder DA-42 is widely used in Afghanistan and Iraq. There are airplanes equipped with special cameras for cartography and laser scanning systems, which allows surveying images with a resolution of up to 10 centimeters. And the screen displays a picture of 3 D.

Currently, the equipment of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation includes complexes with short-range and short-range UAVs: “Pear”, “Granat”, “Leer”, “Zastava” and others. Development in this area continues. In Krasnoarmeysk, for example, showed a whole range of drones of various classes - "Frontier-60". One of them, short range, is designed for reconnaissance, photography, automatic recognition of targets. It is especially effective in mountainous areas and is equipped with a unique thermal imaging camera that allows you to recognize targets even in the foliage.

It is more difficult with engines for such UAVs, since we do not have a school for small-scale engine building, and the one that was found to be destroyed. But the state corporation Rostec has already set up production and its own design bureau for their development. Work is underway on its engines for heavy UAVs. As the chief engineer for aviation Rostec Group projects Vladimir Kutakhov, while they use a large number of elements of the foreign component base and the main task is to replace them with domestic counterparts.

In recent years, a number of other UAVs of various classes have appeared: “200 Geoscan”, “Frigate”, “Outpost”. They not only shoot a television picture, but also process it in a three-dimensional model, lead the information suppression of the enemy.

Surprisingly, some Soviet models still remain. For example, the heavy shock drone of the Tupolev development Korshun, which did not go into the series at one time, but, as I was told, still with its flight performance meets modern requirements and has a great modernization potential. The combat load is one ton, that is, it can carry two five hundred kilograms laser-guided bombs, the flight range is 900 kilometers. If you put on the "Kite" modern electronic equipment, it will be able to solve the most complex tasks.

They do not go with exploration

At another site, they demonstrated their capabilities for developing the 68240 military unit and the Scientific Research Institute of the Special Mechanical Engineering Complex of the Moscow State Technical University. Baumana: “Varyag”, “Wild boar”, “Spiderman”, “Tornado”. They are designed for remote visual reconnaissance, search and disposal of explosive devices by destroying them or placing them in a special container. These complexes are able to work on rough terrain, in urban environments, they are equipped with digital control systems, communication channel, highly sensitive cameras, microphones, telemetry sensors. RTK "Varyag" (weighs 60 kilograms, which is convenient during transportation) can move cargo up to 10 kilograms. The "Boar" - 170 kilograms of its own weight, and the corresponding capacity - up to 50 kilograms. "Climber" works on the railroad tracks with a manipulator and moves loads up to 300 kilograms. The mobile robotic complex MRK-BT1 “Shot” of the Izhevsk Radio Plant was created for work with explosive or explosive objects, it has a chassis with variable track geometry, a cryogenic liquid nitrogen plant, a multi-charge hydraulic destroyer, and a remote control. He can conduct a series of six hydrodynamic shocks, pre-cooling explosive objects to minus 180 degrees, which makes them as fragile as possible. Such complexes focus on the Izhevsk plant deal with 2010 year.

At the robot “Tral Patrol 4.0” (“SMP-Robotiks”) all-round cameras allow you to perform the functions of guarding and patrolling an object in fully automatic mode at any time of the year and day. A remotely controlled carrier platform of increased load-bearing capacity “Rod” is the brainchild of the State Research Institute of Applied Problems. A distinctive feature is high maneuverability, the ability to overcome obstacles when driving over land, to force water barriers. Conducts reconnaissance, patrols the terrain, can affect openly located manpower and lightly armored equipment of the enemy, deliver cargo. Its amphibious platform is equipped with a universal shock module with a PCT 7,62-mm machine gun. "Rod" is equipped with a camera, thermal imager, laser rangefinder. The software allows you to determine the coordinates of the target, the initial installation for shooting. The RTK can be reinforced with three RPG-26 anti-tank grenade launchers or RSHG-2 hand-held assault grenades.

The robots working in various environments can interact with each other on the battlefield, which was shown by the RTK and the UAV developed by NITI Progress, in particular Platforma-M and the Takhior BLA, in detecting and destroying a conditional enemy group. The mobile self-government complex on the basis of a special armored chassis “Scorpion” (“Protection” corporation) is also capable of receiving intelligence from a drone and firing to kill.

RTC Kovrov Electromechanical Plant is fighting with shooters and snipers, including those located in shelters. It consists of acoustic and electro-optical detectors of the enemy position, combined with a fire control system. Communication range by radio channels - up to three kilometers. The modular design allows you to place machine guns, grenade launchers, anti-tank and missile systems.

An interesting robot "nurse", which finds the wounded on the battlefield, he loads them on the transport platform and takes out from under the fire.

At the final stage are the development of marine robots designed to survey the water area and search in the interests of the Ministry of Defense. All of them are produced by enterprises of the defense industry complex of Russia both for the state defense order and as an initiative. At the demonstration site of the FKP "Research Institute" Geodesy "demonstrated their capabilities 13 robotic complexes 18 enterprises of Russia.

“Army” will answer for everything

As the commission, which was headed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, noted, some RTKs look solid, modern, and most importantly - they can save lives when performing combat missions or in man-made disasters. Since 2014, the development of these high-tech machines has been assigned to the priorities of military construction, it is taken into account in the modernization plans of the military-industrial complex. A concept has been approved for the use of military-purpose RTK for the period up to 2030, R & D is underway, the formation of a comprehensive targeted program for the development of advanced military robotics for the period up to 2025 is being completed.

But after the introduction of sanctions, some previous decisions have to be revised. Providing the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation with modern robotics is, increasingly, more difficult. While there is a feeling that enterprises are trying to do everything at once, but this does not lead to the desired results. To solve the problem, it is proposed to form analytical centers on the basis of organizations and institutions of the FANO and the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia to support the activities of military authorities, create a Fund of promising technologies, transfer armaments programs to its jurisdiction, introduce the institute of robotic systems and complexes general designer and lots based on the successful experience of the RNF and FPI. On the basis of the leading defense enterprises, it is necessary to create centers of basic technologies.

All these questions were submitted to the military-technical forum "Army 2015", which will be held on 16 – 19 on June 20 in Kubinka. It will be about key technologies for the development of the RTC.

In the meantime, despite the wishes that were voiced in Krasnoarmeysk a year ago, it seems that our single designers are not united by a common plan and are doing what the market requires. And he does not always take into account the national interests of the country and defense tasks.

I hope that not only the T-50 in the pilot version will be available soon, but also its upgraded fellow T-50 in the unmanned version. This will be a blow to the pride of the West and some Eastern countries that consider themselves to be the pillars of the world.

It is extremely difficult to catch up with the US heavy drone drone class, not to mention the unmanned T-50, which is not even launched into the series. And the Americans have already learned how to land on an aircraft carrier

RShG-2 is not "manual", but REACTIVE! And there is no mass production yet and there is no own base of modern processors.

Unfortunately, the main obstacle against robots is the generals. I have heard a lot of general statements that Americans are cowards stupid, their soldiers are afraid to go into battle, and send robots. Robots are expensive, initiative soldiers and so on. Almost all of the above equipment, radio-controlled samples. But at least they realized that robots are needed.

Senior officers are conservative and they have an overestimated ego.
The use of robots requires a major change in tactics
troops. New posts. New management structure
Who is more important - sergeant-operators of robots or
combat officers on the battlefield? The answer is not so trivial:
"rear rat" -chick UAV operator can in a second
joystick win the battle. He sees the battlefield better and he has
instruments are precision missiles. Will it be able to recognize
      important colonel? belay

There are many different drones needed. But the most acute problem we have is in the issue of an attack UAV weighing up to 20 tons. The MIG created a Skat, but nothing went further than a prototype. As far as I know, the design bureau is currently developing such a “drummer” Mikoyan, Sukhoi, as well as a few other small enterprises. But unfortunately we do not have a strike UAV yet, which is very upsetting.

For the successful development of all this direction, a powerful element base is needed, which the author mentions in the article. And for its development, a broader market will be needed. And for this, in addition to military robots, robots will also be needed for the citizen. For example, a robot-fireman or a robot who knows how to lay communications underground. In addition, the development of robotics is able to give a second life to existing samples. For example, developments are underway on the robotization of the T-72.

There are a lot of ready-made platforms for this development in the storerooms. In the future, "Armata" will be able to work both with the crew and be controlled remotely.

Now you can regret how many aircraft modeling circles were under the USSR, which were then ruined by "new monetary relations." Those who came from them could greatly help in the design and construction of the UAV. And many went to the "big" aviation from there.

Yes, judging by the number of small and very small UAVs, as well as companies producing them, you can regret that they were not destroyed during the USSR laughing But seriously, with each newly opened Youth House in our city, a circle with a typical name like "I am a robot" opens, but I am afraid without companies with competitive, including export products (and I don’t need to provide links about the export of small UAVs to Kazakhstan and Venezuela) The author casually walked about the element base, optics, engines.

I heard the good news from this article that the concept and GOSTs began to appear. This is important because "boots" tongue almost always do not know what they themselves want.
Still, they paid money for samples, or at least there was co-financing. And then only 180 million for the ExoATLET project from aluminum rods were allocated and almost everything.

The article raises the right questions, but ....... is our MO ready to make a real order for unmanned platforms? And another important fact - we were already able to include drones in the tactics of battle, here it depends not only on the desire of the officer, here are the norms, charters, tactical schemes, here a lot of changes must first go through.
I do not have a modern edition of the "Charter of the Guard Service", but I wonder if there are already similar changes?
