Underhammer Pistol Gun - Knuckles - Dagger

12
HistoryPistols.ru has already written about the Apache revolver combined with brass knuckles and dagger. Weapon which will be discussed in today's article is very similar to him. Perhaps it was “Apache” that became the prototype for the construction of a single-shot underhammer - brass knuckles - dagger.

On the Rock Island Auction site (Rock Island Auction Company) about the underhammer gun - brass knuckles - the dagger says not much. Year of manufacture and manufacturer of weapons is not known. The approximate auction price is about 6500 $ - 9500 $.

Structurally, the weapon consists of a single-shot underhammer pistol capsule, brass knuckles and a dagger with a curved blade. The mainspring is placed under the octagonal barrel and bolted to it with a screw at the muzzle. To the spring is attached to the trigger, made in the form of a cylinder with a notch on the side surfaces. Brandtrubka probably placed above the trigger. The trigger is hinged at the base of the pistol frame. The trigger folds forward in the stowed position. In the upper part of the trunk is the front sight in the form of a ball. The dagger blade has a triangular cross section and a total length of 67 mm. The blade is narrow and curved (the so-called Flamberge-style) to increase efficiency when striking. The blade is hinged on the left side of the trunk and can be brought into the combat position as with the folded and unfolded position of the brass knuckles.

The base of the brass knuckles is the handle when holding the weapon. The brass knuckles are made of brass and have four oval holes for placing fingers in it. The brass knuckles are connected to the shooting part by the hinge method. In the “martial” position, the position of the knuckle-handle is fixed. The fixing button is located on the left side, on the right side there is a horseshoe-shaped spring of the fixation mechanism.

Under the swivel on the left, the serial number “219” is visible.

In the upper part, in the breech area, there is a letter text. The top line contains the inscription "THE SURE" (English sure), on the bottom line "DEFENDER" (English defender). Not quite clear the meaning of the inscription. Perhaps the manufacturer wanted to write something like the slogan of the owner of the weapon "Confidence and Protection", it is possible to mention his appointment "Of course Protection".

The serial number "219" is also applied on the front side of the brass knuckles under the swivel.

The underhammer barrel has a length of 51 mm. Bore caliber - 32. The weapon involves muzzle loading. Cocking the spring occurs when the trigger pull down. Simultaneously, the trigger engages with the sear. After installing the cap on the brandtrubku can produce a shot. The effectiveness of a single pistol is not very high, but in combination with the combat capabilities of a dagger and brass knuckles, this combined weapon becomes a compact and effective means of self-defense. One type of weapon can force the robber to refuse to attack a person who has this brass gun at his side.

When you look at this device, one word comes to mind - "wunderwaffe". However, as a historical exhibit, the thing cannot but admire ....

I can’t understand why for self-defense and brass knuckles and a dagger ... here to shoot once is the norm, and even then only once. request
And so the thing is beautiful! good

like a story yes. Practicality ... not at all. Brass knuckles deteriorate on the first hit. if you don’t shoot yourself in the leg or groin. a dagger ... a nail. easier to carry scissors in a purse. gun ... 1 shot. but for now you’ll decompose. the idea is dead.
simpler and cheaper and RELIABLE ordinary brass knuckles.
Like a story, this is interesting!

Probably, not everything is so simple ... Weapons of this type were produced both before and after (see Le Faucher revolvers) of this instance. And if the brass knuckles are folded parallel to the barrel, then the "percussion instrument" will be another one. In those days, disposable things were not made.

An interesting instance. The disease of universalization. The brass knuckles are a weapon of shock hand-to-hand combat, so that the dagger must be brought into combat position, time is needed, and there is one shot, at a distance of 5-10 meters ... More questions than answers. The year is not indicated, most likely the second half of the 19 century. A very unique and interesting model ...
Nowadays, on decent equipment, and even more so manually, not every machine operator or locksmith will make a similar pattern ...

One type of weapon can make a robber refuse to attack a person who has this brass knuckles with him
And advanced descendants of the samurai came up with a similar weapon of longer range
And about this I hear for the first time, interestingly, an article +
This is an interesting weapon because it was the only known example in which an automatic pistol and a sword were combined, although in history there have been examples of the combination of pistols with bayonets and blades.

The instance of Nambu of the 14 year shown in the photo lacks a trigger and a magazine. The length of the blade of the sword is 744 mm, and the scabbard has been slightly modified to fit under the gun.

An ordinary sword has a rod for attaching the handle, but whether this rod was in this case is not known. The sword probably made it difficult to shoot the pistol, and the weight and size of the weapon also made the use of the sword problematic. Like most combinations, this weapon must have shown its worst side, and its practical value was minimal.
Nambu Sword Gun 1914, .32 caliber (8 mm) specifications:

    Length: 226 mm
    Barrel length: 120 mm
    Weight: 0,9 kg
    Caliber: 8 mm
    Rifling: 6, right.
    Store capacity: 8 cartridges
    Initial speed of the bullet: 290 m / s
