Global Firepower rating. April 2015 of the year

18
All countries of the world are worried about their security, pursuing the appropriate foreign policy and developing the armed forces. Comparing the military power of countries is one of the most interesting questions in the field of security. To the delight of specialists, politicians and the public interested, ratings of armies from different countries are regularly published, allowing them to compare their military strength. In early April, an updated Global Firepower rating was published.

Global Firepower ranking is one of the most famous and reputable research in the world. The authors of this study carefully study the various aspects of the armies of the world and render their verdict. The ranking of countries by military power is compiled using the Power Index (Power Index or PwrIndex). When analyzing the defense potential of each country, about fifty different parameters are taken into account, summarized in a single formula. The result of the calculations is a number that fairly reflects the potential of a particular country. As the country's military power grows, its PwrIndex shrinks and tends to zero. Thus, the smaller the resulting index of a certain state, the more military power it has.

The system of calculation of the index of military power uses 50 of various parameters, reflecting the state of the economy, industry and the armed forces themselves. In addition, when calculating the index, a system of bonus and penalty factors is applied. Also, the authors of the Global Firepower rating take into account some features of the states that can seriously affect the index. So, the following rules apply when calculating:
- The country index does not include nuclear weapons;
- the calculations take into account the geographical features of the states;
- it is not only quantitative aspects of the armed forces that are taken into account;
- production and consumption of some basic resources are taken into account;
- landlocked countries are not penalized for the lack of naval forces;
- The limited capabilities of the Navy are a reason for a fine;
- The political course of the country and other similar factors are not taken into account.

This time, the authors of the Global Firepower ranking studied the armed forces of 126 countries. A year ago, there were only 106 positions in the ranking. The updated rating has other differences from last year’s version. For various reasons, the PwrIndex of most countries has decreased, indicating a slight increase in their military power. It is noteworthy that the growth of the defense potential exists both in the upper part of the table and in its lower lines.

For the year, the top five have not changed. The power indices of countries have decreased, so that the most militarily strong states remained in their places. The world leader is still the United States, Russia is in second place, and the top three are China. Also in the top five owners of the most powerful armies included India and the UK.

The top ten also did without major changes. The sixth to tenth places were taken by France, South Korea, Germany, Japan and Turkey. It is noteworthy that for the year Japan was able to climb one line. However, its index has decreased from 0,5586 to 0,3838. Thus, through the implementation of some projects, the Country of the Rising Sun has significantly increased its defense potential in just one year.

Similar trends are observed throughout the table. For example, countries rated at 0,5858 (Japan's last year index) are now in 16-17 locations. Last year, Tanzania was in the last 106 place with an 4,3423 index. In 2015, this African state took the 120 line with PwrIndex 3,5526. The militarily weakest state among those studied is Somalia, which received an 5,7116 rating. For comparison, the last but one 125 place is occupied by Mozambique with the 3,8105 index.

Detailed information on military power and other parameters taken into account when determining the index is attached to the country summary table. Consider the top five leaders and find out what helped them to become the most powerful countries in the world.

1. USA

As before, the first place remains with the United States. In the 2015 rating of the year, this state received an 0,1661 rating. For comparison, a year ago, the US military power was estimated at the level of 0,2208. Thus, the defense potential of the state has noticeably grown.

The following data was taken into account when calculating the index. The population of the United States - 320,202 million. If necessary, the country will be able to call up a million people for service in the army, of which 145,2 million are between the ages of 120 and 17 years. Each year, the number of human resources suitable for military service is increased by 45 million people. The US military currently serves 4,217 million people. In reserve - 1,4 million people.

As a world leader, the United States has the appropriate strength to act on land. US Army has 8848 tanks, 41062 armored fighting vehicles, 1934 self-propelled artillery, 1299 towed guns and 1331 MLRS.

The Pentagon has a total of 13892 aircraft and helicopters of various types. This number includes 2207 fighters and interceptors, 2797 shock (hereinafter some fighter-bombers can be assigned to two categories: fighters and strike aircraft), 5366 transport aircraft and 2809 training aircraft. In addition, the United States has 6196 helicopters for various purposes and 920 rotary-wing helicopters.

The total number of ships, submarines and boats of the naval forces and other structures - 473 units. The US has 20 aircraft carriers (aircraft carriers and amphibious ships with full-fledged flight deck), 10 frigates, 62 destroyers, 72 submarines, 13 coastal ships and 11 minesweepers. In the column "corvettes" is zero. In addition, the list (both here and below) does not include some other ships, boats and vessels.

In addition to the various features of the armed forces, various resources are taken into account when calculating the Power Index. Thus, the US produces 7,441 million barrels of oil per day. Daily consumption of "black gold" is 19 million barrels. Proved oil reserves - 20,68 billion barrels.

In the US, there are 155,4 million workers. The logistics involved 393 trading vessel, 24 large port, 6,586 million km of roads, 224792 km of railways and 13,5 thousand operating airfields.

In 2015, the US military budget amounted to 577,1 billion dollars. National debt - 15,68 trillion dollars. As a year ago, gold reserves are estimated at 150,2 billion dollars. Purchasing power parity - 16,72 billion dollars.

When analyzing the defensive potential, the authors of the Global Firepower index take into account the geographical features of countries. For obvious reasons, over the past year, such parameters of the United States have not changed. The area of the country is 9,827 million square meters. km, coastline length - 19924 km. On land borders accounted 12 thousand. Km. The total length of waterways exceeds 41 thousand. Km.

2. Russia

In second place in the ranking is Russia, which received an 0,1865 rating. Last year, PwrIndex Russia was set at 0,2355. Thus, the Russian defense potential continues to grow, which is evidence of the success of current programs for the modernization of the armed forces.

The total population of Russia is estimated at 142,5 million. 69,1 million can serve. Suitable for military service 46,812 million people. Each year, the draft age reaches 1,354 million people. Currently 766055 is serving in the military. Another 2,485 million are in reserve.

The numerical indicators of the land types of the armed forces of Russia are one of the reasons for its location on the second line of the rating. The Russian army has 15398 tanks, 31298 armored vehicles of other classes, 5972 self-propelled artillery, 4625 towed guns and 3793 MLRS.

The total number of aircraft in the armed forces is 3429 units. The units have 769 fighters and interceptors, 1305 shock and 1083 transport aircraft. 346 training aircraft are used for pilot training. In addition, there are 462 drums and 1120 multi-purpose helicopters.

The Russian Navy has 352 units of equipment. These are the 1 aircraft carrier, the 4 frigate, the 12 destroyers, the 74 corvette, the 55 submarines, the 65 coastal ships and the 34 minesweeper. It should be noted that the foreign classification of ships and ships of the naval forces differs markedly from the Russian one, which leads to some disagreements.

According to the compilers of the Global Firepower rating, Russia is currently producing 10,58 million barrels of oil per day. Own consumption is 3,2 million barrels per day. Proved reserves are 80 billion barrels.

Labor resources of Russia are estimated at 75,29 million. Cargo transportation uses 1143 merchant ships, 7 major ports, 982 thousands of kilometers of roads and 87157 kilometers of railways. 1218 airfields are in operation.

Russia's defense budget in 2015 amounted to 60,4 billion US dollars (the rate at which the calculations were carried out is not specified). National debt - 714,2 billion dollars. Gold reserves are estimated at 515,6 billion dollars, purchasing power parity is 2,553 trillion dollars.

The supplementary materials for the 2014 and 2015 ratings of the year provide the same data on Russia's geographical features. The total area of the state - 17,098 million square meters. km, coastline length - 37653 km. The land borders have a total length of 22407 km. There are waterways with a length of 102 thousand km.

3. China

The third line of the rating is again occupied by the People's Republic of China. This time, her power index is 0,2315. In the 2014 ranking of the year, China received an 0,2594 rating. The decrease in the Power Index indicates the success of the Chinese armed forces and the defense industry in increasing the country's defense potential. At present, China is striving to become the leading country in the Asia-Pacific region, which, among other things, translates into the creation and improvement of powerful armed forces.

1,356 billion people live in China. In the army, with certain reservations, 749,61 million people can serve. Directly fit to the service 618,588 million people. Each year, the number of potential draftees is growing by 19,538 millions. Currently, 2,333 million people serve in the People’s Liberation Army of China. There are 2,3 million reservists.

The situation with the PLA land technology is as follows. The army has 9150 tanks, 4788 armored vehicles of other types, 1710 self-propelled artillery, 6246 towed guns and 1770 MLRS.

By total aviation China is inferior to the owners of first and second places. In the Air Force and other types of armed forces of the PRC, there are only 2860 aircraft of all types. These are 1066 fighters and interceptors, 1311 attack aircraft, 876 military transport and 352 trainings. The helicopter fleet is represented by 196 strike machines and 908 units of other equipment.

The total number of ships, boats and submarines - 673 units. The naval forces, coast guard and other structures operate 1 aircraft carrier, 47 frigates, 25 destroyers, 23 corvettes, 67 submarines, 11 coastal ships and 6 minesweepers.

China has its own fields, which give it 4,372 million barrels of oil per day. At the same time, its own mining industry cannot meet all the needs of the industry that consumes 9,5 million barrels daily. Explored and proved reserves in sizes 17,3 billion barrels.

China has the largest labor force - 797,6 million people. China's merchant fleet numbers 2030 ships, using 15 major ports and terminals. 3,86 million km of roads and 86 thousand km of railways were laid across the country. Aviation uses 507 airports.

Most of the information about the Chinese defense is classified, but the authors of the Global Firepower study were able to roughly estimate the financial performance of the PLA. The military budget is estimated at 145 billion US dollars. China's national debt is 863,2 billion dollars. Gold reserves of the country reach 3,821 trillion dollars. Purchasing power parity - 13,39 trillion.

The geography of China over the years has not changed. The total area of the country - 9,597 million square meters. km The length of the coastline - 14,5 thousand. Km. Land boundary - 22457 km. There are waterways with a total length of 110 thousand km.

4. India

The second largest state in terms of population is again located on the fourth line of the Global Firepower rating, which is facilitated by the special attention of the authorities to the development of the armed forces. Over the past few years, India has been actively renewing its army, thanks to which it has consistently occupied the first lines of various ratings. This time, India received an 0,2695 rating. For comparison, the 2014 index of the year was equal to 0,3872.

There are 1,236 billion people living in India, of which 615,2 million can serve in the army. Suitable for service 489,57 million people. Annually, the draft age reaches 22,897 million people. At the same time in the armed forces now serves 1,325 million people with a reserve of 2,143 million.

The Indian armed forces have a fairly large fleet of various ground military equipment and weapons. The 6464 tank, 6704 armored vehicles of other types, 290 self-propelled artillery, 7414 towed guns, and 292 multiple-launch rocket systems are in service.

The Indian armed forces have 1905 airplanes and helicopters of various types. These are 629 fighters and interceptors, 761 strike aircraft, 667 military transport and 263 training vehicles. In addition, the Indian military uses 20 attack helicopters and 584 rotary-wing machines for other purposes.

Navy and other armed forces have a total of 202 units of ships, submarines, etc. The basis of the Indian Navy are 2 aircraft carrier, 15 frigates, 9 destroyers, 25 corvettes and 15 submarines. In addition, there are 46 coastal ships and 7 minesweepers.

India has its own oil fields, but they cannot provide the country with the right amount of raw materials. Total 897,5 thousand barrels are mined daily, while 3,3 million barrels are consumed. Explored and proven oil reserves are also relatively small - only 5,476 billion barrels.

According to the compilers of the Global Firepower rating, the working-age population of India is 487,3 million. The country's merchant fleet uses 340 vessels of various types and 7 of the main large ports. India has a developed road network with a total length of 3,32 million km. The total length of railways is 63974 km. Operate 346 airfields.

In 2015, India allocated 38 billion US dollars for defense. The national debt of the country is estimated at 412,2 billion dollars. The total volume of foreign exchange reserves reaches 295 billion dollars. Purchasing power parity - 4,99 trillion dollars.

India is one of the largest countries in the world, with an area of about 3,287 million square meters. km The total length of the coastline - 7 thousand. Km. Land boundary - 13888 km. Waterways - 14,5 thousand. Km.

5. United Kingdom

The top five in the Global Firepower ranking is occupied by the UK with the power index 0,2743. A year earlier, the British military earned an 0,3923 rating. As is the case with other leaders of the rating, the UK maintains its position, but at the same time it gradually increases its defense potential.

Of the population of 63,743 million people, 29,164 million can serve in the army. Suitable for the service are 24,035 million. Every year the minimum age for service reaches 749,48 thousand people. In the British armed forces now serves only 149980 people. Reserve - 182 thousand people.

Despite the high position in the ranking, the UK can not boast a large number of weapons and military equipment. The ground forces have 407 tanks, 5948 armored vehicles, 89 self-propelled artillery, 138 towed guns and 42 MLRS.

The air force and naval aviation also do not differ in large numbers: only 936 aircraft of all types are in service. Fighter aircraft is represented by 89 aircraft, attack - 160. Transport tasks are performed by 365 aircraft, flight crews are trained using 343 training aircraft. In addition, there are 65 drums and 402 multi-purpose helicopters.

The compilers of the Global Firepower rating have counted 66 ships, boats and submarines in the UK. These are 1 aircraft carriers, 13 frigates, 10 submarines, 15 minesweepers and 10 ships intended for operations in the coastal zone. Corvettes in the Royal Navy are missing.

The UK mining industry provides most of the country's oil needs. 1,1 million barrels are mined every day while consuming 1,217 million barrels. Explored reserves are 3,122 billion barrels.

In the British economy involved 30,15 million workers. For sea shipping, 14 major ports and 504 merchant ships are used. There are highways total length of 394428 km. The total length of railways is 16454 km. Aviation has 460 airfields.

Despite the relatively small size and population, the UK has a relatively powerful economy, allowing for large defense spending. The military budget of this year has the size of 51,5 billion dollars. At the same time, the country's national debt is 9,577 trillion dollars, and gold reserves equivalent to 87,48 billion dollars. Purchasing power parity - 2,387 trillion US dollars.

The area of insular Britain is just 243610 square. km The islands have a coastline with a total length of 12429 km. On the land border with Ireland accounts for only 443 km. Inland waterways - 3200 km.

***

For the year, the top ten Global Firepower rankings have not changed much. Almost all countries leading in combat power, remained in their places. At the same time, however, their assessments have changed significantly. In just one year, PwrIndex in many countries has changed in the smaller direction, which indicates an increase in defense capability and military capabilities. In most cases, the improvement of assessments occurred at the same time, which is why the first ten did not change much, and the order of countries basically remained the same.

It should be noted that at present, none of the countries of the world can be called the undisputed leader in all parameters considered. So, the United States has the largest military budget and exploits the largest aviation fleet. At the same time, China is leading in those areas where the number of people and personnel are crucial. Finally, Russia has the largest number of tanks and other armored vehicles.

For this reason, the compilers of the Global Firepower rating estimate the potential of countries at once by fifty different parameters, which are converted into a decimal fraction using special calculation methods. Taking into account additional rules of comparison (refusal to account for nuclear weapons, bonuses and penalties for various features of the armed forces, etc.) such a system can indeed provide a fairly objective picture.

Naturally, a comparison of the armed forces of different countries in terms of the set of parameters has some drawbacks that can affect objectivity. Nevertheless, the Global Firepower rating is currently one of the most famous and authoritative research in this direction. In addition, it should be noted that the regular first places of Russia are a good reason for joy and pride for our country.

      It would be informative to look through the "ratings of countries in the Second World War", as you write. Where can you do this? It just seems to me that they did not suffer much from such garbage.

      There were no ratings in the Second World War. And if they were on our side, are you really not aware of the number of weapons and personnel?

      In that rating, not only weapons are estimated, but also the country's economic power, how much oil the country produces, total population, able-bodied population, natural resources, government debt, etc. etc.
      Nuclear weapons are not taken into account in this rating., only the economy, geographical advantages, natural resources, logistics, infrastructure and conventional weapons.

    There are no five or ten questions. And the most interesting thing further:
    Ukraine - 25
    Belarus - 45
    Uzbekistan - 54
    Kazakhstan - 66
    As the author rightly points out, "there are some drawbacks that can affect objectivity."

        And what is Uzbekistan above Kazakhstan is generally a complete n *** c !!!

        Firstly, financing of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan is less than 1% of GDP, officially 1,5, but is usually cut during the year. Secondly, the number is 3 times less than the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, this is not even the most police countries. In the third, Kazakhstan prepares personnel itself, which means the majority is almost illiterate. In the fourth, the rating does not take into account the technical condition, and in the RK Armed Forces over the past 10 years not a single military engineer of the highest qualification has been trained, i.e. who graduated from the academy and especially the post-graduate school, and all those who were bosses and the KNB eliminated, because they prevented from buying trash and getting kickbacks. Agree with fools to the authorities easier, and most importantly they are manageable. You can continue to list, but believe me, 66th place in the rating is even a high rating for the Kazakhstani armed forces. In that case, I would have refused the army at the place of Nazarbayev, China and Russia would have protected Kazakhstan from external threats ten times more efficiently and cheaper.

          I do not know what he liked about Lukashenka? If the United States and the West had not imposed sanctions on Belarus, it would have differed little from the presidents of Ukraine. Of course, the President is obliged to think about the interests of his people, but under no circumstances should these interests harm other, especially fraternal peoples, such as Kazakhstan and Russia. And Lukashenka did damage to Kazakhstan not only with powdered milk of unknown origin, but also put the air defense ACS software at three dear so that half the world laughs and the rest rub their hands. And this is a serious damage to the defense of the ally. It is not for nothing that they say "there are more such friends - no enemies"

    The dubiousness of the rating is caused by taking into account only quantitative indicators. Alas, only war can determine quality. From history we know a lot of examples when millions surrendered and hundreds successfully opposed thousands.

    Rating is complete nonsense ... I need a completely different one. If you look at the START treaties, it becomes clear what the rating should look like. The number of missiles, shells, bombs ... and the number of carriers, barrels, wheels. Moreover, each position should be adjusted for the coefficient of combat effectiveness. For example, for T-90 tanks, this coefficient is, conditionally, two in relation to the T-72. Which means that in battle, the T-90 will have time to destroy 2 times more T-72 tanks than they will lose the T-90. Those. of weapons - the most common in the subspecies is assigned a unit, and all the others are assigned combat power in relation to this unit. This is especially important for missiles and airplanes ... Further, the integral indicator should be adjusted for the coefficient of controllability of troops (speed of decision-making and orders, tactical level of literacy of officers), the coefficient of situational awareness of all levels of command (the ability to know friends and foes at the military theater actions taking into account the intelligence depth of such data), the coefficient of unique weapons (wunderwaffe coefficient) that can turn the tide in their favor (Katyusha George Erichovich Langemak and Ivan Platonovich Grave in World War II). For example, a unique invulnerable submarine, or mine, or robot is created, cardinally exceeding in their performance characteristics all that the enemy has. Able to neutralize a significant part of the enemy’s forces. For example, the enemy relies on the Kyrgyz Republic, and we have an electronic warfare system that these Kyrgyz Republics are not able to overcome: then what is the use of the number of Kyrgyz Republics?

    I looked at the rating that came out a year ago. It turns out interestingly. April 2014, Ukraine, tanks 4112 units, and this year 2809 units. Where did 1303 pieces go? Now a lot has fallen into place, from where the militia has so many tanks.
