Italy sells Bangladesh four Minerva type corvettes

14 May in Sicilian Augusta held an official ceremony to withdraw from the Italian Navy two corvettes F 551 Minerva and F 558 Sibilla, which were in reserve from 2012 year, reports blog Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies.
Both ships will arrive at the Italian shipbuilding association Fincantieri, where they will be repaired and upgraded for subsequent transfer to Bangladesh.
On March 4, 2015, Bangladeshi authorities signed an agreement with Italy to purchase four Minerva-type corvettes worth a total of 105 million euros from Italy fleet.
“In total, the Italian Navy had eight Minerva-type corvettes with a standard displacement of about 1300 t, built by the Fincantieri union and commissioned in 1987-1991. In addition to F 551 Minerva and F 558 Sibilla, Bangladesh is expected to sell the F 553 Danaide and F 555 Driade corvettes, ”the article notes.
All four ships will undergo pre-sale repairs and upgrades at Fincantieri facilities. In particular, the landing pad and telescopic hangar for the medium helicopter will appear on the site of the Aspide SAM missile launcher.
