The infrastructure of the military camps at Cape Schmidt and Wrangel Island will be restored before the end of this year.

The head of the press service of the Eastern Military District, Colonel Alexander Gordeyev, told about plans for a quick restoration of the infrastructure of military camps in Chukotka and off its coast. We are talking about the military towns on Cape Schmidt and Wrangel Island. In this case, restoration work will be carried out in strict accordance with environmental standards.
According to Alexander Gordeev, the second stage of the restoration of military camps is underway. Special attention is paid to creating the necessary conditions for high-quality combat duty and support systems.
Construction equipment and the necessary building materials have already been unloaded in the area of Rogers Bay (Wrangel Island) and East Bay (Cape Schmidt). Materials and equipment were delivered to destinations on the ships “Igor Ilyinsky” and “Abakan”, the route by which the icebreaker “Admiral Makarov” was driving.
The initial phase of restoration work on Cape Schmidt and Wrangel Island started last year. The plans of the Ministry of Defense is the completion of work in the current year.
For reference: the airfield at Cape Schmidt in the Iultinsky district of Chukotka currently performs a civilian function. The airstrip here was opened in 1954 year. The strip length is 2,5 km. The plans - an increase in length on 500 m.
