The head of the press service of the Eastern Military District, Colonel Alexander Gordeyev, told about plans for a quick restoration of the infrastructure of military camps in Chukotka and off its coast. We are talking about the military towns on Cape Schmidt and Wrangel Island. In this case, restoration work will be carried out in strict accordance with environmental standards.

The infrastructure of the military camps at Cape Schmidt and Wrangel Island will be restored before the end of this year.

According to Alexander Gordeev, the second stage of the restoration of military camps is underway. Special attention is paid to creating the necessary conditions for high-quality combat duty and support systems.

Construction equipment and the necessary building materials have already been unloaded in the area of Rogers Bay (Wrangel Island) and East Bay (Cape Schmidt). Materials and equipment were delivered to destinations on the ships “Igor Ilyinsky” and “Abakan”, the route by which the icebreaker “Admiral Makarov” was driving.

The initial phase of restoration work on Cape Schmidt and Wrangel Island started last year. The plans of the Ministry of Defense is the completion of work in the current year.

For reference: the airfield at Cape Schmidt in the Iultinsky district of Chukotka currently performs a civilian function. The airstrip here was opened in 1954 year. The strip length is 2,5 km. The plans - an increase in length on 500 m.

It seems to me that they will not be very happy that they are serving in Cape Schmidt.

They don’t talk much about it at all, but this is a real problem.

The North Seas allow US submarines to strike quickly at the center of the Russian Federation - and worst of all, Moscow has a close "flight time"

There is no USSR and no way to organize complete security from the north

Maybe the right idea is to transfer the capital of the EAEU to us in Astana? All away from the "foe"

I don’t know, at one time (mid-70s) WE did not particularly think about the places where we were sent ...

Believe me, Kara-Kumy in Turkmenistan or the Hungry Steppe in Uzbekistan is also not a gift, but in the North there is at least a length of service and an increase in monetary allowance ...

In general, if a person does not understand the essence of the phrase: "There is such a profession - to defend the Motherland," then he has nothing to do either on Cape Schmidt, or on the territory of the former Moscow District (I forgot how everything is now called in modern terms) ...

PS By the way, I looked through the comments fluently, until our forum member appeared (forgot, I apologize, nickname), who actually spent his childhood on the territory of Cape Schmidt ... Well, he will be happy that WE WILL RETURN !!!

I had a three-volume "Correspondence between Stalin and Roosevelt and Churchill during the war of 1941-1945."
          One detail was remembered.
To Roosevelt's proposal to transfer one of the Commander Islands to the United States for the construction of a "jump" airfield (landing of planes ferried under Lend-Lease for maintenance and refueling), Stalin replied: "We don't mind, let them instead emit one of the equivalent islands of the Aleutian ridge !!!!! ! "
Here is such an attitude to every patch of Russian land (many do not even know where these islands are located)!

Do we have aviation kerosene in lakes in our nature? And a solarium. All fuels and lubricants, as before, were imported in 200-liter barrels .. of which there are whole fields there .. And all the same, good! And what about the guys started to think about, how to serve them there, on polar nights, and about the repair and extension of the runway .. -can not please such news .... I really hope that modern building materials and technologies allowed to build in the Arctic for the guys are really warm and comfortable housing and fighting posts .. You wanted to hear that the current Arctic group of forces is called upon to protect the interests of our home-grown oligarchs ... Well, suppose ...

However, whatever one may say, taxes from their super-profits still go to the budget ... At the very least, somehow (I’m not at all happy with this, but it’s better with a goat tear at least a tuft of wool than nothing at all) ...

But that’s why the USSR didn’t need it - you answered it yourself ... The balance of forces wasn’t such that someone foolishly climbed into the Arctic without asking permission from the USSR ...

And, frankly, as I think so, many more do not want strangers to walk around our Arctic ...

However, no matter how troublesome the world began, Russia on its shoulders bore not only its own problems, but also strangers, and in return only received spits ... BUT (!!!) survived and rose ...

      Comrade Gordeev Alexander Yuryevich.
To put it mildly, he is mistaken when he says that the ships have already been unloaded. Since 27.04.15/100/XNUMX, ships cannot move away from the Bering Strait. And today they are in the same place, on ice conditions, they cannot pass. Although, how did they then plan to unload on fast ice. And "news from the fields" speaks about the imminent possible visit of big stars, for analysis on the spot with contractors. About XNUMX construction workers are sitting around. And who will pay them for the downtime and freight of the ships.
