Attempts to create weapon, which would not require a separate time and effort to load, were always. In the Soviet army, SVT-40, a self-loading rifle of the Tokarev system of the 1940 model of the year, was in service for a long time. The creator of this rifle was faced with the task of making the weapon as light and small as possible. At the same time, it was not possible to reduce the automation itself, since it disrupted its operation. Tokarev had to remove everything that did not affect the shooting - to reduce the bayonet, to increase the size of the chamfers, to drill a lot of holes. All wooden parts are sleeker and lighter. The rifle turned out to be spectacular. However, it didn’t do without “but” - during the war, when skilled workers went to the front, and teenagers and women began to work in the workshops, the quality of a fairly precision rifle fell dramatically. In addition, at the front they were also received far not by veterans, but by yesterday’s civilians who had gone through an accelerated course. As a result, there were failures of SVO-40 in combat conditions.
Later, for the mass production of rifles, they returned to the old models of the magazine rifle 1891 \ 1930. But the SVT took root in the army among the elite of shooters - snipers. Good accuracy, small size and weight, and sufficiently high reliability with proper operation allowed the SVT-40 to become the main sniper rifle of the Red Army. Her abbreviation even deciphered as "Tokarev Sniper Rifle." We think this alone gives the right to respect and recognition. But not only the sniper used SVT. At its base was developed automatic rifle AVT - 40, which was produced in 1942 year, to compensate for the lack of machine guns. AVT shot bursts, which significantly increased the density of fire. Later, like all other weapons, SVT became available stories, but she wrote her page with accurate shots.
