Commentary of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the issue of the Russian media on the statements of the Syrian President
8
Question: A number of Russian information channels, citing some foreign media, today published statements attributed to the President of Syria with the threat of exposing Israel to massive rocket and artillery fire. Do the Syrian President report this?
Response: There is a corresponding refutation of the official authorities of both Syria and Turkey on this score. So, I think the answer to this question is clear. However, it seems that it would be wrong to limit oneself to just such a statement.
We believe that in this case we are dealing with a crude provocation, a blatant act of information war being waged against Syria. It is obvious that the forces behind this are interested in maximally denigrating the image of Syria and its leadership in the eyes of the world community and thus creating conditions for justifying external interference in the affairs of Syria in order to overthrow the existing regime there.
Such actions are unacceptable. They only complicate the search for such ways out of the current crisis in the SAR, which would not only guarantee its peaceful transformation to a modern democratic state, but also ensure the preservation of peace and stability to the entire Middle Eastern region.
