Last Saturday, a congress was held in the Transcarpathian region of Ukraine, which brought together community organizations of local Rusyns. Mass media: the following persons participated in the meeting of the congress: Society of Subcarpathian Rusyns, the Rusyn Movement, the Dukhnovich Society, the Guardians
stories, Rusinsky Scientific Educational Society and other organizations and institutions. The congress was convened in order to adopt a list of requirements for the official authorities of Ukraine. The main requirement: recognition by Kiev of the results of referendums in Transcarpathia (1991 year), in which about 80% of citizens spoke in favor of autonomy.
From the press release:
The congress decided to create a Coordination Council of Ruthenian organizations in Transcarpathia. The total number of members will be up to 40 000 people. The main objectives of the Council will be to unite and coordinate the efforts of the members of the structure to ensure the cultural and historical heritage, the rights and freedoms of the Ruthenian community and other national minorities of the region. In particular, we are talking about the need to recognize the Ruthenians as a national minority.
For reference: the Rusins are an Eastern Slavic ethnos, whose representatives live on the territory of Ukraine, Hungary, Slovakia, Serbia, and Croatia. Depending on the territory of residence, they profess either Orthodoxy or Greek Catholicism.
From the materials of the first meeting of the Coordination Council:
To contribute to the restoration of the activities of the former League of Nations of Transcarpathia in the form of the formation of an inter-ethnic Assembly of Nations with the aim of enhancing and coordinating the activities of the national minorities of the region to protect their rights and freedoms.
To support the decision of the Meeting of the leaders of Ruthenian organizations in Mukachevo of 10 in March 2014 of the year, which calls to assist in the realization of the goals of the Transcarpathian residents to the President and deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to recognize the Ruthenians as national minorities and the results of 1991 referendums of the year.
Meanwhile, material appeared in Ukrainska Pravda with reference to the head of the People’s Council of Ruthenians in Transcarpathia, Yevgeny Zupan, in which it is said that there was no congress, and that no one demanded any autonomy.
Zhupan (quote
zn.ua):
I just spoke with the chairman of the Dukhnovich Society named after Yury Prodan, who is mentioned in the message - he assured me that he was hearing for the first time both the March 14 congress and some decision that his organization allegedly supported. In turn, Pyotr Getsko, whose statement refers to the media, has not been to Transcarpathia for the last 3-5 years, but during 2014 has been actively involved in Russian propaganda stories about riots in Ukraine and separatism in Transcarpathia. Moreover, Getsko was put on the official wanted list.
That is, Mr. Dzhemilev does not appear in the Crimea, but it is not possible to declare your vision of the situation on the peninsula, while others cannot do so in respect of other regions, or is it solely about Getsko alone? As you can see, the Ukrainian media are trying to act on the old principles of double standards.
