In an interview with Kommersant FM radio station, Senator Konstantin Kosachev said that Russia could recognize the independence of Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics. According to Kosachev, this can happen only if there are no other options for resolving the crisis in Ukraine.
Konstantin Kosachev, who is the head of the international affairs committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, quotes the news agency
TASS:
If and when all the other possibilities of reaching a political solution are exhausted, I do not exclude this option (recognition of the independence of the DPR and the LPR by Russia - note “IN”).
At the same time, Konstantin Kosachev added that, first of all, the future of these territories should be determined on the basis of the interests of the conflicting parties:
It’s not necessary for Russia to say: “No, you must be a territorially integrated state”, or “No, you will never be a territorially integrated state, you must disperse”, or “Only federalization”, or “Only autonomization”, or “Only decentralization. And note that we do not have such an approach, and the president has repeatedly said, and the foreign minister has repeatedly said: "Multivariance. The most important thing is that the final version should be the subject of mutual satisfaction and agreement. ”The chance for this is enormous, this is the only thing that Russia, the United States of America, the European Union, NATO, and everyone else should support.
Recall that last year, referendums were held in the DPR and the LPR. In the DPR, 89,07% (with the turnout of 74, 87%) of those who voted supported the independence of the republic. In the LNR, 90,53% voted for independence at 81% turnout.
