The Parliament of Ukraine decided to support the initiative of the President of Petro Poroshenko, concerning the celebration of the day of the Ukrainian army not on February 23, but on October 14. This date was chosen due to the fact that it was October 14 that the well-known Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) was founded at that time, whose representatives ruined tens of thousands of lives of their compatriots.

From 2015, the new holiday in the neighboring state will be called the Day of Defender of Ukraine. Verkhovna Rada decided to make October 14 a day off.
