In the streets of Lviv, over one night, numerous slogans and appeals appeared in Polish, painted on buildings and monuments. The overwhelming majority of the inscriptions in Russian translation read as follows: “Polish Lions” and “Death to Banderovites!” The Polish portal reports this. Kresy.pl.
Inscriptions of obscene nature appeared on the monuments dedicated to the UPA and other detachments of Western Ukrainian collaborators and accomplices of the Hitler army. The plaque, which was called the “Victims of Polish Chauvinists”, was destroyed.
Punitive actions of representatives of the OUN-UPA during the Second World War in Volyn alone claimed the lives of tens of thousands of ethnic Poles. To date, it has been possible to identify individuals about 40 thousand dead. More than 30 thousands are reported missing. At the end of the summer 1943, the Poles already began to retaliate with ethnic cleansing of the Ukrainian population.
Before 1939, Lviv was part of Poland, and on the basis of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, it became part of the Ukrainian SSR.
