Sculptor Zaurbek Dzanagov and architect Zaurbek Bugulov participated in the creation of the monument.
“On a high marble pedestal there rises a bust of a hero that seems to hover against the background of a bell carved in stone. “Haji-Umar Mamsurov-KSANTI” is embossed on the stele: they knew the Soviet military adviser in Spain under the last name, ”the agency writes. The bell is a reminder that Mamsurov became the prototype of Ernest Hemingway’s novel hero “For Whom the Bell Tolls”.
According to the portal Ossetia.RU, "With 1941 years Haji Umar Mamsurov fought on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War, in May 1945 year he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union, he was awarded three Orders of Lenin, four Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of Kutuzov 1-th degree, Suvorova 2-th degree and other.
Colonel-General Mansurov died in 1968, was buried in Moscow. Documents on the activities of the Soviet intelligence officer have not yet been declassified.
