For the first time in several months, the UN Security Council unanimously supported the draft resolution submitted by Russian representatives. We are talking about a resolution that is directed against obtaining revenues from the sale of oil by terrorist groups operating in the Middle East. TV channel Russia Today reports that the resolution refers to counteracting the receipt of illegal income by such terrorist groups as the Islamic State, the Front al-Nusra, and other structures that operate, including under the wing of Al-Qaida. Under whose wing these organizations operate, they did not specify ...
Both the permanent and temporary members of the UN Security Council voted for the adoption of the resolution, the draft of which was submitted by Russia. The resolution involves the criminal prosecution of those individuals or legal entities that purchase oil from ISIL militants and other terrorist structures.
The resolution also says that those who are engaged in the destruction or looting of religious and cultural heritage objects in Syria and Iraq should bear special responsibility.
The words of the permanent representative of the Russian Federation in the UN Security Council Vitaly Churkin represent RIA News:
We believe that this is exactly the case that testifies to the necessity and benefits of collective efforts in the interests of solving the problems facing us all.
