The first launch of the Ukrainian Cyclone-4 rocket from the Brazilian cosmodrome Alcantara is scheduled for 2013. The chairman of the State Space Agency Yury Alekseev said this, the press service of the department informs. A trial launch was previously planned for 2012.
"A modern launch complex will be built on the ocean coast (it is estimated at 500 million dollars), which we will operate together with the Brazilians. Today intensive construction work is underway there, and we are completing the preparation of the rocket," Y. Alekseev said. "I think the first launch will be made in 2013. As a result, Ukraine will receive independent access to the space center and launch services. For us, this is very important. In fact, this is a joint space walk with Brazilians," he continued.
Ukraine and Brazil signed a long-term cooperation agreement on the use of Cyclone-4 media at the launch center of Alcantara 21 in October 2003. Construction of the launch complex in Brazil began in September of 2010.
