Boko Haram militants capture city and military base in Nigeria
68
British media with the BBC reports that militants of the Boko Haram terrorist organization seized the city of Baga, located in northeastern Nigeria. The city of Baga is the base of the armed forces of Nigeria and the military of the African Union, which also was under the complete control of the militants. A representative of the administration of the province of Borno (Borno), in which the city is located, said that the military had left the base, there were dead and wounded, several quarters were in flames.
Western news agencies have reported that militants in the captured city organize demonstrative executions of those citizens who are not Muslims. Several hundred people managed to escape from the city on the waterway - on boats across Lake Chad to the eponymous state that Nigeria borders on.
The Nigerian authorities report that without international support, defeating the Boko Haram group, which has gained substantial power, will be difficult for Nigerian security officials. Now most of the territories in the north-east of Nigeria are not controlled by the official authorities of the state.
Almost simultaneously with the seizure of the Nigerian city, militants "Boko Haram" attacked a bus carrying passengers in Cameroon. Fifteen people were killed on the spot, the rest were injured and were captured by the militants.
