TOR - TODAY AND TOMORROW RUSSIAN AIR PROTECTION
In the competitive development of air attack weapons and air defense equipment, a trend has emerged long ago, within the framework of which the field of opposition to these types of weapons has moved into the sphere of extremely small heights. That is what determines the formulation of requirements for short-range air defense systems today, including:
- defeat high precision weapons (anti-radar missiles guided aviation bombs, cruise missiles), manned aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles;
- high probability of hitting high-speed, diving, low-flying and maneuvering targets;
- the ability to hit targets flying with a large exchange rate parameter (on the covered object);
- high noise immunity;
- short reaction time (time from the appearance of the first mark from the target on the radar to the launch of the rocket);
- channel on the target and the rocket (the ability to simultaneously hit several targets);
- Sufficiency of a set of missiles for solving all problems.
Short-range air defense systems of the Tor family of IEMZ Kupol production, such as Tor-M2E, Tor-M2K and Tor-M2KM, fully meet all these requirements. They were designed to combat various modern means of air attack and are designed to destroy the WTO (anti-radar missiles, guided and planning aerial bombs) and various maneuvering, high-speed manned and unmanned aerial weapons, capable of operating around the clock at extremely low, low and medium altitudes, with speeds up to 700 m / s or using active and passive intentional interference. These air defense missile systems were created as “complexes of the last frontier”, which are the main combat means of fighting the massive attacks of the WTO directly over the battlefield. They provide effective air defense of military units on the march, in places of permanent or temporary deployment and in all mobile forms of modern combat, as well as the protection of important state and military facilities. At the present stage, the Tor system is the only weapon in the world that can simultaneously hit four targets on the principle of “one rocket - one goal”.
HONORED VICTORY
The best evidence of the leading position of the Tor family’s air defense system on the world arms market are the results of firing tests conducted both on Russian test sites and on the territories of foreign countries.
From 30 September to 17 in October 2014 of the year at the test site of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation "Kapustin Yar" tests of the Tor-M2KM anti-aircraft missile system in a modular design were performed on the TATA chassis of Indian production.
The purpose of the tests of this complex was primarily to test its characteristics as part of a tender announced by the MoD of India for the purchase of two anti-aircraft missile regiments that will repel the attack of the enemy in the affected area up to 15 km. The tests were organized in accordance with the terms of reference prepared by the tender commission, and were conducted with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and India. The company was supposed to show the action of the Tor-MHNUMXKM air defense system in combat conditions and answer all questions of interest to representatives of the military department of the potential customer.
The demonstration starts were the culmination of the test. Shooting took place in two stages. According to the conditions of the first mission, the target, the role of which was fulfilled by the Saman rocket, was fired at daylight with two rockets simultaneously. The target was hit by the very first missile at a distance of more than 15 km, at an altitude of about 5 km. Another missile for a given program went on self-destruction. At the second stage, a small-sized target was hit at night. His goal was a UAV, moving at an altitude of about 0,5 km. And this target was also hit by one rocket. The complex brilliantly performed the shooting, showing one-hundred-percent result, and also underwent full sea trials on a specially prepared challenging track and all the tests for trouble-free continuous operation. These results were the logical outcome of the IEMZ due to the high quality of the equipment, the excellent performance of the crew and the precise organization of the tests. The tender commission rated the work of the Tor-M2KM complex at a high level.
Specialists of the company talk about the great prospects of the Tor-M2KM air defense missile system. Today it is the only type of such weapon capable of providing air defense of large cities within the city limits, the most important military, industrial and government facilities, railway junctions, naval bases, airfields, arsenals, etc. The developers managed to create a compact, fully autonomous combat module, which can be placed at the request of the customer on a variety of platforms, including car chassis, semi-trailers, trailers, railway platforms and decks of light-duty ships. It can also be installed on special frames and operate in a stationary mode. Currently, the principle of modular construction of various systems of weapons and military equipment is used by developers in all countries of the world. However, analogues of Tor-MXNXKM air defense systems simply do not exist today.
As part of the tender program, all the declared characteristics of the complex were once again demonstrated. The experience of the production of the Tor-MXNUMKKM air defense missile system and the results of the tests carried out, as noted by the Kupol specialists, will make it possible to create its new modifications. The company is actively working to further improve the complex in these areas, and its management is confident in the solution of all tasks.
Alexey Gromyko goes to the city of Izhevsk at the Kupol Electromechanical Plant to tell about the Tor-M2-U anti-aircraft missile system and to participate in its creation. You will see the production of the complex, find out what the main parts it consists of and what they serve, how they are tested, and the principle of operation of the 9М331 anti-aircraft guided missile, having visited the Avitek enterprise.
