Spiegel declares that NATO is not capable in the near future to create a full-fledged rapid reaction force near the borders of Russia
Spiegel writes that creating a powerful group of rapid response (from Estonia to the Black Sea coast) will require huge amounts of money, which NATO simply does not have for such purposes. Therefore, NATO will have to either abandon many other projects, or call several divisions a “rapid response group”, the effectiveness of which raises certain doubts.
At the moment, NATO is talking about the presence of 5 thousands of troops in the "rapid reaction force". However, the speed of reaction in these units, judging by the analytics of Spiegel, leaves much to be desired. If initially it was planned that the group should deploy and enter the confrontation area in 48 hours, now, due to the lack of funds and weakness of training, first of all, the Eastern contingent, according to the most optimistic forecasts, this will take about 5 days. “Spiegel” is ironic, saying that due to the deployment time of five thousand NATO troops, it’s impossible to say that NATO has a rapid reaction force at the borders of Russia.
In addition, the Spiegel article states that the statements of high-ranking alliance officials about the alleged invasion of the Russian Armed Forces into Ukraine often contradict one another.
