Military equipment checked in the Arctic
“From the Moscow Region Bronnitsy in the Zapolyarye, the Defense Ministry’s expedition began to test and evaluate modern and promising samples of tracked and automotive military equipment in actual natural and climatic conditions of the Arctic. The total length of the route will be more than 2,1 thousand km, the destination of the expedition is Pechenga. On Monday, it is planned to begin testing the equipment, which will last for several weeks, ”said Bulgakov.
According to him, the members of the expedition “will have to check the effectiveness of the use of special snow-swamp vehicle equipment and military motor vehicles in the Arctic during the three-day autonomous 500-km march along the Rybachiy Peninsula with special studies and tests on difficult-to-pass snow-covered sections of the tundra.
“We will also check the effectiveness of modifications of the army snowmobile based on the results of acceptance tests, as well as assess the throughput of wheeled and tracked vehicle models in real climatic conditions in the Kola Peninsula,” said the deputy minister.
In addition, lightweight two-link tracked carriers will be tested and “the possibility and effectiveness of the use of existing and prospective evacuation vehicles and mobile points for the maintenance and repair of military automotive equipment will be evaluated,” he added.
Bulgakov said that more than 20 samples will be tested, including the Wolverine V800 snowmobile, all-terrain vehicle on ultra-low pressure tires, two-link tracked vehicles, multi-purpose vehicles, protected cars (Rys, Typhoon), mobile workshops and means of evacuation and repair, means of life support (pre-fabricated inflatable shelters) ".
Specialists of the 3 Central Defense Research Institute "will fully check the performance, technical characteristics and capabilities of the military operation of modern and promising samples of tracked and military vehicles in low temperatures, high humidity to identify the main directions to improve their design in order to improve their technical level" noted the deputy minister.
"They will also gain experience using samples of this technique, which will be used when units and parts carry out tasks for real-world military operations in the Arctic zone," he added.
Bulgakov recalled that this year military equipment was tested in a mountainous, hot desert and sandy area on the territory of Kabardino-Balkaria and the Astrakhan region.
