Two days ago, in Sydney, the solemn ceremony of raising the flag and entering into the Australian Navy a universal landing ship L 02 "Canberra" - the first of two ordered ships of this class. This is reported by the blog. bmpd.

The ceremony was attended by the Governor-General of the country Cosgrove and Prime Minister Abbott.

The contract for the construction of ships was concluded in 2007 with the Spanish shipbuilding company "Navantia". The hulls of both vessels were built in Spain (in El Ferrol), and then delivered by a special vessel “Blue Marlin” to Australia. The completion works are carried out by BAE Systems Australia in Williamstown.

The hull of the lead ship was laid in Spain in 2010, launched in the 2011. Sea trials in Australia began in spring 2014.

The body of the second UDC L 01 "Adelaide" was delivered for completion in February 2014. Its delivery is scheduled for 2016.

Nitsche is like a boat, though it’s almost defenseless on its own.
"Each Canberra-class ship will be able to accommodate 1,221-1,403 people on board (243 crew, 978 paratroopers and 36 to 146 additional personnel). The ships have 6 landing sites for S-70 Blackhawk helicopters. or NH90 TTH. "Springboard" on deck can also be used to launch UAVs, and is considered suitable for short takeoff and vertical landing of aircraft such as the F-35B, if the decision to purchase them is still made.
Canberra-class ships can carry up to 150 combat vehicles, including the M1A1 Abrams tanks. If necessary, the ship can accommodate up to 1152 fully equipped soldiers. On the landing ship, an inclined inner dock is designed, in which 4 special landing boats are located.
As well as on other similar ships, the Canberra-class ships will be equipped with a developed medical facility, consisting of 2 operating rooms, a hospital ward equipped with everything necessary for intensive care, a dental office, and a laboratory.
The Canberra-class ships will have minimal defensive armament. Therefore, their close interaction with frigates of the ANZAC type designed to protect these ships is envisaged. In other words, combat conditions do not provide for the independent operation of these ships without the cover of frigates. I would like to note that the absence of anti-aircraft missiles or is an unusual and controversial decision for such a large and important ship. For example, all similar ships of the fleets of other countries have air defense systems. But the Australians believe that the escort frigates will fully cope with the task of protecting these ships. Just Australia is an example of how to build a fleet is not necessary.

They have 4 decrepit Perry who are actually training.
          And 8 Anzakov with SeaSperow.

That’s all the whole combat fleet, but there is

          DKVD type Bay
2 UDC like Kenber (1 will still be)
1 BDK Tobruk type Gren with Helicopter and 5 displacement.

The Australian frigates ANZAC will accompany this miracle
          Armament:

          gun 127 mm.
          rockets:
          anti-aircraft - RIM-7 developed in 60, put into service in 76.
it is planned to install subsonic harpoon rockets of the 77 year ...

Compare this with the armament of our frigate project 22350
16 range caliber and onyx - range up to 500km and at the same time it is a supersonic, low-flying target.
polymer-redoubt complex - from 512 to 32-x rockets Earth air with a radius of action up to 400km

Any of our modern frigates or even corvettes takes this whole fraternity without even entering the zone of destruction of its missiles.

This is how these 32 sections were actually placed.

But, in principle, it’s not about comparing our modern frigates and ANZAC frigates. 1993-2006 of release. The thing is that these frigates are not able to provide protection for the Australian UDC!

None from air attacks (4 machine gun 12,5 mm and antediluvian air defense systems of the 70 year)
Neither from surface targets (even after they are re-equipped with subsonic "harpoon" missiles) anyway, their range of action is small and any more or less modern ship will destroy this entire security order without entering the range of its missiles. Yes, and these missiles themselves easily go astray ...

Frigates of the Anzac type, years of construction - 1993-2006. - fairly new ships
              displacement - 3 600

patrol ship "Burevestnik" Project 1135 was developed in 1964-1966 years of construction - 1970 - 1991
              displacement - 2835 tone

It’s just incorrect to compare these ships - petrels began to build on 23 a year earlier. The difference between them is 23-36 years old!

At the same time, the frigate of the 22350 project was launched only a 4 year later than the latest models of the frigate Anzak

In 2011, the Australian Department of Defense signed a contract with the British company BAE Systems to modernize Anzac-class frigates, Defense Aerospace reports. The deal was worth $ 650 million. As part of this agreement, BAE Systems will modernize the anti-aircraft missile systems of Australian frigates that provide air defense for ships. Work on the Perth ship has already begun. This stage of modernization is being implemented as part of the larger Project Sea 1448 program aimed at increasing the combat effectiveness of ships.

As part of the new upgrade phase, Australian frigates will receive a CEAPAR phased array radar, a Vampire NG infrared search and tracking system, a Sharpeye navigation radar system and an advanced Saab CMS fire control system. All of these systems have already been implemented on the Perth frigate, and in 2012 the modernization of the remaining seven Anzac-class frigates will begin according to this standard. The work is expected to be completed in 2017.

Their fleet is not intended to fight ours - there is an Amer. Their task is to control the ocean and other islands and coasts. Even in the event of a major war, our fleet is unlikely to roam in the south, which means that their possible tasks are to fight the fleets of Indonesia, the countries of Indochina, and the ocean, again, to drive pirates. And for these purposes, it will fit.

It seems that with these UDCs the story of the Collins series submarines is being repeated (by the way, they were built in our city, at the Australian Submarine Corporation plant, this plant is five minutes away from me, even from the roof of the house you can now see the mast, all in construction scaffolding, being completed afloat the destroyer "Hobart") which turned out to be so poor quality that the government had to pay several additional billions of dollars in order to carry out their modernization immediately after launching, without which the boats simply could not stay afloat. so many defects and imperfections that for several months they were simply afraid to be included in the fleet. lol

If I am not mistaken, in addition to twelve helicopters, it provides for the basing of up to six tactical fighters, with a short take-off and vertical landing. Type of our Mig-29K

Australia in 2015 year is going to buy:
F-35 in addition to the already ordered F-35.

Plus Australia wants to take 8 Osprey.

For the Fu-35, nicknamed "Lightning", and for the old "Harriers", the Gishpanians did it. They therefore took X. from Carlos as a system of systems - interfaced with the US wing as on their UDC. "Mistral" does not fit into it. So those who want to once again spit on the "French barge" - do not strain. Rather, strain your brain in order to look at the topic from all angles, before you go in righteous anger.

Australia, at one time abandoned the French Mistrals in favor of the Canberra-class DVDKD and the similar Adelaide. Both are planned to be commissioned by 2016. Regarding the Mistral UDC, Australia said that it is "too complex a ship with certain problems with seaworthiness and too expensive."
Well, the problem was with determining the place of construction, Australia wanted to build at home.

In Sevastopol, the Russian share is estimated at 40%. Australians themselves evaluate their part of the work in 25%:
The Australian Government stated that around 25 percent of the value of the project would involve work in Australia. This would be largely limited to construction of the superstructures of the two ships in Tenix's (now BAE Systems') shipyard in Williamstown, Victoria, with some systems work done in South Australia.

It looks like they are also preparing for a big war. For why do they need so many new weapons. Only in the fleet: Two Canberra-class UDCs, three Hobart-class frigates, are preparing to build or buy abroad (have not yet decided) six submarines ... and this is in a country with 23 million population.

But meanwhile you laugh in vain! The Angles recently in the Falklands-Malvinas with live firing maneuvered. The following year, the moratorium on economic activity in Antarctica ends. Chileans send women in general at the station, probably there is no money at the UDC, so at least stake it.
