Hotilovo

37
Recently I had a chance to visit the Khotilovo airbase in the Tver province. The 790th fighter stationed here aviation Kutuzov’s Order of the 790rd degree regiment (31th IAP), which are armed with MiG-27 and Su-XNUMX fighters of various modifications.

And although in the end flights were repulsed due to weather conditions, and the most delicious could not be seen, the trip should be recognized as useful, because it’s not every day that you can visit a military airfield and talk with interesting people and equipment.

Let's start with stories.

The formation of the 790-IAP began in Kirovabad after the defense of Odessa on 20 in October 1941 based on the 69-IAP. The first commander was the Hero of the Soviet Union, Major Yu.B. Markets. At first, the number of the regiment did not change, only the letter “69А” was added.

In March, the 1942 g. Part became known as the "790 th Fighter Regiment", which included two squadrons.

During the Great Patriotic War, the regiment repeatedly changed its deployment and in April 1952 entered the disposal of the commander of the air defense fighter aircraft and redeployed to the Kalinin region (now Tverskaya) at the Hotilovo airfield. The regiment entered the air defense system of Moscow.

In the same year, the retraining of MiG-15 fighter jets began, but very soon MiG-15 fighters replaced the MiG-17 ...

And now there is the kingdom of MiG-31 and Su-27.

For the comprehensive training of flight personnel used aircraft simulators. And although the main center for retraining on MiGi-31 is Sawasleyka, there are also simulators in Hotilovo.
There was no training at this time, but it was also interesting to just look.

The complex simulator of the crew of the MIG-31BM is designed for ground training of flight personnel to perform tasks related to piloting and combat use of the aircraft in conditions as close as possible to the real ones, as well as to monitor the correctness of the actions of trainees during their flight missions.

Procedural simulator of the crew of the MiG-31BM aircraft.

We rise to the tower of the head of flights.

As I said, there were no flights that day, so jobs are empty. But you can safely shoot without fear to interfere with responsible work.

This is the workplace of the head of the near zone.

Workplace head landing zone.

Monitor the head of the landing zone.

Here the duty navigator works.

Binoculars do not interfere for visual inspection.

Weather display.

But such a view opens to the parking lot from the upper part.

The Khotilovo garrison has a MiG-25PU monument with the tail number “51 Red”, and the number was originally blue.

Pilot-cosmonaut Svetlana Savitskaya set a world record on a blue MiG-25PU with a tail number "51" of blue color, so it is quite possible that before you is the very record MiG!

Shot the reflection and out of nowhere in the frame appeared a pigeon and a boy! Probably it would be better :)

Fighters Hotilovo

Last week, the next modernized MiG-31BM from the factory to the base of profits, although to be precise the MiG-31BSM, for some reason, there is simply no such official name. Externally, the BCM differs from the BM by the absence of a refueling bar.

MiG-31BM has a modern control system, the target detection range reaches 320 km, and destruction - 280 km. A fighter can simultaneously hit six and accompany up to ten air targets.

One of the arrivals has the number "50 red". That it is now being prepared for launch.

I steer for takeoff.

Run on the runway with the release of the brake parachute.

Taxied on taxiway in our direction.

Thanks to the pilots for the "run"!

MiG-31 - the car ahead of time! How many years have passed since its creation, and in some cases it has not surpassed it!

On iconography from the TV channel "Star" compactly and clearly marked TTX fighter.

In caponier there are MiGs of another squadron.

I can not get rid of the feeling of similarity with the wolf from the cartoon about the gnome Vasya :)

The passage is denied, the passage is closed!

Now go to the parking lot to stay with the aircraft closer.

Beautiful, however!

Almost rocket!

Hotilovo

"Jack" for weight lifting.

View from the ladder.

And here is the "Black Pearl"! I do not know why this Dryer was so called, but in my opinion, it is the only one with such color. Has been repaired in Pushkin.

More Drying.

The verified geometry.

That's the meeting - wheeled T-150!

It's lunch time. I would like to mention this point especially :) They feed here simply with “naiba”)) First, second, dessert, and all in different versions!

After the meal there was one problem - as if not to fall asleep) We remained to wait until dark to take pictures of the night stands.

It turned out that's what.

Something like that. Thanks for attention!

All this is excellent, but the question has always been haunted: why do each aircraft cost hundreds, or even billions of rubles, to stand in the open? Not really on their resource, readiness, precipitation, temperature changes, snow, ice do not affect in any way? Is it really that difficult to build a hangar for every aircraft I repeat worth billions of rubles? Given the current construction technologies, this pleasure will cost tens of millions, which against the background of billions does not look at all expensive ..

How do airplanes fly? Carcasses, Silts, Boeings, etc. The temperature drops from +30 on the ground to - 50 at altitude. Winter, summer, rain, snow. 3-4-5 flights a day. And they fly not a year or two, but 15-20 years, or even 30 years, with breaks for repairs and maintenance. Nobody drives them into airports in hangars (except for repairs). They don’t seem to rot

and you will inquire how much maintenance of civil aircraft costs, well, and do not forget that military aircraft, unlike civil aircraft with extreme design characteristics, where in a civilian liner a margin of safety is laid in a military board, all this goes to achieve maximum performance at the expense to others, and secondly, all the liners make money and thereby pay off both maintenance and fuel and much more, military aircraft do not bring money, they only spend it and basically spend their lives on the ground waiting for the "x" hour, so I am writing about that can they all be driven into hangars thereby saving on maintenance? I don’t believe that in our conditions it is cheaper to repair an airplane due to weather influences, than, for example, to build a hangar from corrugated board or sandwich panels, now these structures cost a penny! And somewhere else have you seen a bugati, Ferrari or other collectible car standing in spite of all the winds? And the plane costs orders of magnitude more! But in the first case, there is an owner with a given name and surname, and in the second, a faceless state with appointed temporary workers.

But in fact, max702 is right. Military equipment is often perceived as "iron for warriors", although in the world of technology they are the same Ferrari and Bugatti in terms of complexity and technology.
            It is necessary to protect!

Cool photos. During urgent battles, Valdai regularly fought in aviation with Khotilovo. I saw their cars only on VIKO in the form of a mark on the target. Yes, a couple of times from the ground as the first number of ZPU. Cool.

So far, thank God, there has never been a real meeting. And the fact that the pair MIG31 BM flew to Canada, refueling from the IL 76 is not yet an indicator of the omnipotence of MIG 31 since in a real combat situation, it is not yet known how long the 76 would have let fly and everyone else in the group to fly.
If we talk about the MiG 31BM as a long-range interceptor, then this is indeed a very serious machine, capable of much, including the detection and interception of low-flying targets of the "ax" type. I don't even mention larger targets like B1 and others like him.
Of course, it would be nice if the long-range P17 missiles could be controlled after launching them from the MIG31 and before turning on the GOS, the Russian AWAX A50 could learn so that the MIG 31 could fire at the target and forget about it, taking on other targets. And it is hardly worth relying on the fact that an inertial guidance system will ensure that a maneuvering target that is remote for a couple of hundred kilometers is not worth it.

Recently I saw the AWACS A-50 and MiG-31 in the north of the Moscow Region in the sky. A beautiful sight and flight geometry. In general, in clear weather, the whole sky is streaked with conversion traces, so they fly often ... And that's good

Actually, I'm not talking about the beauty of the picture, but about how to "teach" these two planes to work in pairs more efficiently. For example, use the MIG31 radar as a remote radar for the A50 with real-time data exchange between aircraft and use the A50 as a control launcher for MIG31 long-range missiles using the radio command guidance method in the middle segment of the flight.
In the first case, the A50 detection zone could increase 2 3 times, and in the second MIG31, it would get rid of the need to track the target and the missile for a considerable time and incur radio adversary missiles.

And it would be useful to recall that the MIG31 was the first successfully tested aircraft platform of the USSR-carrier anti-satellite missiles. Which is very relevant now.

During the Vostok-2014 exercise, the crews of four MiG-31 interceptor fighters took off from the Elizovo airfield and headed for the Pacific Ocean to provide air cover for the Pacific Fleet's warships.
Guidance of fighters to the target was carried out from an A-50 long-range radar detection and tracking aircraft, which carried out radar reconnaissance in the air and issued information to the control center of the ship’s group.
The crews of aircraft overcame more than 2 thousand kilometers and were in the air for about three hours.

For all its scary, it was one of the most technologically advanced aircraft of its time, thanks to the use of a welded (rather than riveted) structure. There was a crack on the fuselage or wing, brewed and walk again. True, this airplane was consumed by alcohol inexorably, for which, however, his staff was very grateful to him.

So take a bucket or two of paints and paint. The plane deserved. And it was a complete surprise for minke whales and not only for them. For example, he flew without hesitation over Israel taking pictures of everything and they only powerlessly clenched their fists. Everything is very simple - in the aviation units of the USSR Air Defense Forces, blue (blue) side numbers on planes and helicopters were adopted. A distinctive feature, so to speak, and in the aviation units of the Air Force - mostly yellow or red.

A beautiful photo story, but a little twist:
    in the gym, the most valuable thing is the chairs closed with bags;
    judging by the condition of the monument, the commandant of the regiment does not like aviation;
    one of the pilots in the photo is a bit thick (pilots are not often driven to gyms);
    the squandering of "people's money" continues. planes are stored without hangars, and even "abandoned" them at the start overnight, even without "plugs";
pads are put "as I want" ...

In fact, in the Russian Air Force, many flyers have a belly, and no one particularly "indulges" in physical training. The main thing is that the doctors let them fly. And hangarless storage became chronic in our country, especially after the SU-27 and MiG-29 were adopted, which simply did not fit into the old shelters along the wingspan. We had an air defense airfield nearby - while the Su-15s were flying, the planes were in most shelters, except for the dezh.link.As the 27th appeared, everyone was on the street, except for those in the TEC. By the way ... In the 30s, the Stirling bomber was adopted in England, in the terms of reference for which it was stated that the new aircraft should fit into old hangars. As a result, we got a very mediocre machine, but with a "short" wing. So let it be on the street (I hope so far) and good cars than in the shelter and so-so.

You guys seem to live in the 19th century! Now construction technologies have reached such heights that the hangar is not exactly for DRYING, but for TU160 you can assemble it in a few hours! About the fact that hangars will be built and then they will become unsuitable for new types of aircraft, then this is a technical question and may well be taken into account in the design, well, I repeat the plane costs 1,5-2 billion rubles! And new planes become 3-4 times more expensive than the old ones! How much is the SU27, and how much is the T-50? And that there is no money for the hangar? Rave! Here is an example for you to build a submarine, and the coastal structure was shaken, and so they ruined expensive cars .. They could not build a power station to power the boats in the parking lot. and the fact that it costs orders of magnitude cheaper than the boats themselves did not think! By the way, "Ural" was ruined for the same reason .. The same is with hangars .. and all this comes from the point of the charter "must steadfastly endure the hardships and deprivations of military service" only technology is not people it cannot be convinced and the laws of physics cannot be canceled ..

It is especially pleasant that when our Tu-95s flew in the direction of Alaska (without bothering anyone) and American Fu-22s crawled out to meet them - to scare them. And then "cavalry from behind the hills" in the form of our MiG-31! Fu was dispersed, they spurted to the sides in horror, and then the North America was writhing in cramps on the topic that with such an accompaniment, the sky of Canada, and then the United States, becomes open to the "Bears" !!! Wonderful!

He began his career with the creation of an automatic landing system for fighters. These were the 60s of that century. The problem was solved, the fighters were able to carry out an automatic landing. Then he headed, as Chief Designer, the creation of systems for all aircraft, including those shown in the article. He defended his thesis, then doctoral, then, etc. It is nice to see my first invention, "Nose needle antenna for a supersonic fighter," on all fighters. I remember for a fee for this antenna my wife and I and two children (we were young, not even 30 years old) bought a cooperative apartment in Leningrad. Aircraft, ground and sea systems created with my participation allowed the MiG-31P under the leadership of Marshal Savitsky E.Ya. the Americans are being driven in the Far East of our country. Then for two months I did not get out of business trips. The Americans have stopped violating our border.
Then, as the head of the Main Directorate of the MCI of the USSR, he provided serial production of systems at subordinate factories. It was a difficult time, but pleasant. We worked for the good and power of the country. In the cockpit of the aircraft are such lovely and dear remotes with which as soon as yesterday broke up. I have the honor.
